Well, that turned out to be incredible, I've just finished the last episode. I really enjoyed watching this on a nightly basis. Some of the characters were annoying at first (and also had annoying moments in general), but most of them turned out to be fantastic, well-rounded characters towards the end.

Finished this today and it was amazing :flutter: the cast and the storyline were amazing, I usually find kids really annoying on TV shows but the kids on this show were so likeable and great characters. I'm glad there's going to be a season 2 :flutter: and apparently it's going to be darker.

Honestly I think this show is a bit overrated by people I know (and I guess just general review/opinion on it). It gets cheesy at times and the "twists" and stuff are actually very predictable to me almost all the time.

Still, it's a solid show that I liked enough to finish the first season and I plan on starting to watch season 2 within the next week. Actually kinda excited to watch it. :joker:

Apologies Shaun! There is a death though but the person who dies should not have died. But I feel the person who dies is just an easy scape goat and that is why they died. Man that was hard when I can't really mention he or she!

First episode and maybe half of the second had me a bit worried that it was going to fall short - but having watched the whole season, it is excellent again. A couple of random pointless characters in the mix (honestly not sure why??) and episode 7... err... well, there's a reason it gets 6.8 on IMDB when no other ep in the entire show is below 8.5... and episodes 6, 8 and 9 are all 9.5+ :joker:.

I saw a review describe the episode as "X-Men Third Class" :laugh:. Which is sort of accurate... it's totally out of place and feels like a back-door pilot for a (not very good!) superhero drama :think:. And "8" is a terrible actress which doesn't help.

Brilliant season! I agree with ToySoldier above, I watched the first 2 episodes and enjoyed them but it didn't feel like it had the magic of S1. That all changed though during the third and fourth episodes and from then on it was brilliant and definitely up to the quality of the first.

I know Ep7 is getting a lot of dislike online but I actually thought it was decent enough. The placing of it was a bit annoying because of the huge cliffhanger the episode before, and the new bunch of characters were a bit crap, but I felt it was a hugely important episode for Eleven's development (and played a big part in her being able to close the gate in the finale) as well as setting up storylines for future seasons.

Steve was the best this season though. Amazing character development since early S1, we need a babysitter spin off.

Thought the storyline this series was a bit of a mess though and the shadow monster wasn’t ever fully explained (I guess he’s the boss of the upside down?) apart from the dungeons and dragons analogy..

Saying that, part of the fun for me was not really having a clue what was going on and focusing on th characters. Hopper has already gone to the top of my favourite characters in a show...

Kinda was disappointed Eleven wasn’t with the others all season, and how irrelevant she was throughout a lot of it

Couldn’t give less of a **** about Barb and that arc, they should have left it out.

Started off thinking Steve was one of the worst most boring characters but by episode 9 he’s probably one of the best tbh. As Locke says, his character development is unreal

Loved Bob, was a bit annoyed because that was a spoiler I saw Just before I started season two but thankfully it didn’t seem to be a massive part of the story. It’s a bit weird how pretty much all of the main characters never get killed off but this isn’t GOT where they have to work off a source material. If it wasn’t for GRR Martin I doubt the writers would kill anyone off anymore

The Snow Ball finale was perfect, Dustin is great. I don’t think we can really take much from that last bit with the upside down tbh, think it was just there to show us the upside down will never go away, not that the gate is going to open again. I wonder what happened to the Demodog Dustin and Steve put in the fridge, if somehow it could have kept the gate open or the fridge itself kept it alive despite the gate being closed?

As for episode 7, I was expecting a lot worse from the reaction it got, spent the whole episode thinking El was going to die. It was a pretty rubbish episode though and the actress who played 008 wasn’t a great actress. But again as Locke says it was needed for the finale.

They could quite easily end this show now and although disappointed I’d be fine with it, they’re definitely gonna bleed it dry though sadly

I think that's sort of the point though, you're put in a position where you're basically just a spectator on the side of events that the characters themselves are experiencing, for the mostpart. THEY are confused and don't really have an clue what's actually going on, and are trying to make sense of it by various means (e.g. the boys with the D&D analogies, and Dustin near the end this season pointed out the limitations of that, when the analogy doesn't fit and he's like "I don't know, it's just a game!")... and so we're sort of put in the same position as them. We know that bat**** crazy stuff is going on and everyone is trying to make sense of it.

From what I've read, they have a 4 season arc planned and are pretty committed to sticking to it... which is very good news for a show like this. So as long as they don't back out of that, I don't think there's a risk of them bleeding it dry. Thankfully it's a Netflix show, so it can just be a complete thing on the service, it's not on a broadcast Network TV channel where they push for more and more with popular shows because of the ad revenue, and do end up bleeding things dry. Game of Thrones for example, although they're committed to a finite run with the show itself, I already get the distinct feeling that they're going to flog the franchise to death with all of these spin-off plans.

I’d say he had something to do with the shadow monster and the upside down but he didn’t have a clue about any of that before Eleven created it. P.S. AM I the only one who wouldn't be made if they didn't bring back Jonathan next series due to the cocaine scandal? I really like Steve and want him to be happy with Nancy.

I think a big part of why Steve was so likable this season though was because he wasn't tied down to a love interest and could get involved with the others. Assuming next season takes place 1 year later again like this one did then he might not even be in Hawkins anymore, they had him filling out his college application in Episode 1. Hopefully him becoming such a fan favourite this season will make them keep him in it though.

I wasn't keen on Season 2, the pacing is DREADFUL and it only really takes off in the last two episodes. As great as the last two are, I pretty much feel that this season had a film's worth of content stretched out to fit the 9 hour run time. They really could have cut this series down to a two hour film and nothing of value would have been lost in terms of cut content.

Max and Billy were mostly pointless additions who were literally just there as padding and the payoff for the D'art storyline was pretty poor given how much time they spent on him in the first four episodes. The Justice for Barb storyline was pretty drawn out and pointless as well. It just felt like the writers were like 'We need to give Jonathan and Nancy something to do. **** 'em off for an episode or two for some silly storyline that could have been done in one scene.'

I think the Demodogs weren't that great either, I get that Stranger things was akin to Alien with the Demogorgon and this time they wanted to go for an Aliens styled storyline but I don't think the dogs had the same punch as the Gorgon did and the Shadow Monster felt like it was just there to set up for Season 3.

Eleven being sidelined for most of the season felt a bit crap too, I actually didn't mind Episode 7 at all, my biggest issue with it is that it should have happened earlier since it disrupted the flow of the story by having what is essentially a bottle episode right before the attack on the Lab was going to begin. The episode itself wasn't too bad though.

As for what I liked, Steve's character went from strength to strength, I really liked Bob and I liked that they redeemed Lucas after making him too much of an obstacle character in the first season. Hopper and Eleven's relationship was also great but keeping them separated for so many episodes was a mistake as was waiting until the last episode for Eleven to reunite with the Party. I also really liked the ending although the tease for next season felt a bit weak.

Next series needs better pacing, a better monster, they need to give Max and Billy a reason for being included and a more well developed storyline that can actually fill the episode count without filler.

Finished season 2 and it didn't disappoint, this is a good show. :clap1: Honestly, season 2 does have some flaws but I think I might have preferred it over season 1. :think: I just enjoyed this season throughout for some reason despite
not caring for the whole Nancy/Jonathan storyline that took too long and just the general flow being more slow paced.

It just worked for me and I was guessing more on what would happen next compared to season 1 which I found predictable basically throughout. I also think maybe I enjoyed this more because Dustin felt like he was a big focal point for this season with the whole Dart situation and he's probably my favorite character so that was nice to see. Easily the best out of the kids. :joker:

Episode 8 was a thrill :clap1: and the season 2 finale > season 1 finale.

Given the fact that he's been so popular with fans this season, I think they'll be all over renewing his contract and probably even bumping UP his screen time rather than down. Especially with the big question mark hanging over Jonathan's return...

E8/9 was the tensest I think I've ever been watching TV, I don't think I've ever got up and started pacing around before (the scenes with the kids trying to escape the tunnel after torching it, in particular)

I saw a lot of hate for episode 7... well I didn't really 'see it' because I wouldn't read anything for fear of spoilers lol. But I kinda enjoyed it :shrug: the characters were a little bit silly stereotypes but part of me was just super-intrigued by 008 (I can't remember her name :worry:) I think she could be introduced as a main villain, I kinda got the feeling that she might be exploiting her gang into doing her bidding through mind-control (kinda like how she started to with 11 and the visions of 'Papa')... obviously don't know how, or if it even happens, and I don't particularly care about any of the gang anyway, lol, but she'd make a good subplot in the future.

Was a good episode to give 11 a fleshed-out character too, give her the chance to question what she wants, whether she's good or not, and obviously with Papa being alive (?!?!?) it sets the premise up for more stories there. I guess I hope they don't introduce any more kids with powers because I like this plot so much but I'd imagine there'll be more if they run out of ideas / Millie wants to quit the show bc the stans have got too much lol

did I mention Bob :bawling: oh and I want to give Dustin's mum a hug so badly :( a lonely lady with a penchant for cats and too much heart? She is me to a T.

I know a few people found Mike annoying this season (I'd imagine primarily because of how he treated Max?) but I do think people forget they're kids and I dread to think how I behaved at the age of 18, let alone 14... his mum and dad are far more annoying anyway.

It did get a little bit silly at times - Dustin's pet Dart just giving in and letting them go away with so little payment as a Three Musketeers bar* - Will just randomly going from Zombie Boy to 'random chick asks him to dance' - Billy in general being the archetypal "I act out bc my dad hits me" bully - BOB NOT PICKING UP THE ****ING GUN - but overall I loved it and perhaps more than season 1.

*this was also why I was convinced Will would die LOL, I thought 'The Three Musketeers' being a nickname given to their Halloween costumes was such a foreshadowing sort of thing for them to include... bc I've never heard of that candy before

I guess I'm one of the few who couldn't get the hype around the second series. The characters were one dimensional, Eleven was literally irrelevant to the storyline, the new characters were useless (the new girl and her brother - was I supposed to feel something about them?), the sudden romance between Eleven and the main boy was too random and OTT, and you could sum the entire series in 3 episodes.There's no need in another series, but I guess they'll do a few more just because it has huge fan base.

I've just been catching up on this show and I quite like the programme, I'm not in love with it though like most people seem to be for these reasons.

1. Nancy's love triangle.

2. Nancy individually being so unlikeable and badly acted imo. It would also be nice if they developed interests that she has, or dynamics with the rest of the cast, I can't believe the season 2 finale was her only major scene with Dustin (I hope that I've got his name right) that I can remember her having with him, heck more importantly I don't really see her with Mike that much and that's meant to be her Brother.:umm2:

3. Max & Billy

4. The incredibly slow start to season 2.

5. Steve.

To not leave this post on a sour note I'll mention what I do like about the programme.

1. The phenomenon behind the events going on in the show is probably my main reason for watching the show, in particular in season 1 I loved trying to find out what happened to Will and why Eleven was the way that she was, and what was causing the problems within the town.

2. Jim is a strong asset for the show imo, he is their funniest main character in the programme imo, only beaten by the two Cop side characters for me on that front, and apart from the awful hut/shed scenes with Eleven in season 2 I do normally like how he pushes the plot forward by trying to find the answers rather than beating around the bush like other main characters do in shows like this.

3. The kid characters were surprise gems for me in the show, I love their geek culture references and they come off likeable which is so rare for kid characters on TV to be. Season 2 imo did hurt their dynamic a lot by adding Max into the group and by association Billy joining their dynamic, but overall I do give a thumbs up to Will, Dustin, Mike, and Lucas.

tbh I think part of the reason for the almost-two-year gap IS so that the actors (and characters) will be a little older and change up the dynamic a bit. Younger kids will be in their mid teens, older kids will now be young adults, etc.
