Thought we could have a thread with things that are 'signs of the times'.......

I'll start with mobile phones I guess.

They are everywhere these days, kids as young as 5 are running around with the latest smart phones, teenagers get texts from parents when it's time to come home (we used the streetlights for this LOL), you can't actually sit in a restaurant or in the cinema etc in peace for a while without someones phone going off or flashing the whole time etc.

I'll talk about the self checkouts in supermarkets:

There not very useful and generally are annoying, very rarely can you use them without having a staff member to assist or press a button or something. I think they definitely need improving, I'm sure the latest ones are far superior to the old ones as technology advances quickly now days.

Why wouldn't people want to get things the easy way? Don't see a problem with that

First thing I thought of was people with sleeve-length tattoos and covering themselves in tattoos.

Some people prefer to live with the knowledge that they've worked for what they've achieved. It's more rewarding.

I'd rather marry a rich man and inherit his fortune than waste my time working, but that's just me

I don't think that Jamie was 'knocking' the ambition to 'get things the easy way' Greg - just the manner in which a growing section of society elect to get those 'things' the 'easy' way.

Gays

In my day there was only John Inman, Jeremy Thorpe and Kenny Everett and that was all

Elton John, Bowie and Freddie Mercury were all still straight, if a little flamboyant

Now everyone is gay or has a beard

Yeah this basically  I suppose it's more the expectation that they should have things the easy way, like a sense of entitlement a lot of people have (which I think there's more of nowadays). And what Ashley said about the rewarding feeling of working for something is true also. Sometimes you can't have things the easy way and when that happens you can either stamp your feet and whine, or you can work hard to get it, and I think more people nowadays choose the 'stamp your feet' option.

I'd rather marry a rich man and inherit his fortune than waste my time working, but that's just me

Oh I think he'd make you work hard for that inheritance before popping his clogs, Greg. I doubt it would be an easy ride

That's like saying you would rather walk than drive to your destination. If the tools are there to help you get where you want to get faster and easier then why not?

Someone I know Armand - Basher Grimsdyke - believed the bit which I have embolded, but unfortunately his 'destination' was inside the local Bank on a Sunday night, and his 'tools' were a sledge hammer and crowbar. Then his destination switched to Wormwood Scrubs and it was a Black Maria which got him there quickly and easily. This is a true story :hee:
