An Italian restaurant in New Mexico has come under fire for a punny billboard playing off the Black Lives Matter slogan amid nationwide outcry over the recent fatal shootings of black men by police officers in the line of duty.
Paisano’s in Albuquerque posted “Black Olives Matter, Try Our Tapenade” on a marquee last week advertising one of its specials and reportedly posted a picture of the sign on social media.

People on the restaurant’s Facebook page called it “offensive,” “tacky and hideous” and “in very bad taste.”
The restaurant has since taken down the sign and removed the photo of it from social media.
“What is happening in America saddens so many, even all the way in the southern hemisphere,” one wrote. “I love a good joke, but there are things that you just don’t joke about.”
Another added: “As a woman of color I find your posting offensive and in very bad taste. You simply wish to rub salt in an ugly festering wound which evil minded people refuse to allow to heal. The civilized world No longer has any tolerance for your hateful public display of what passes to you as humor. Young men and women are dying have a shred of humanity.”
Still, the owner said he has no regrets.
“I think it shows an interesting state of affairs of where our country is that people, first of all, can be offended by a statement about a vegetable,” Camuglia told KOB. “Black olives matter, and it does matter in our tapenade.”

Why get outraged? Nothing is surprising. It's pretty obvious black peoples problems don't matter. They just tolerate black people when they entertain.
Where is the thread on Charles kinsey then who was on the floor with his hands up, minding an autistic patient but was still shot anyway? If all those people that have protested over the years were white there would have been some sort of reform.

Where is the evidence it was accidental?
The victim said he asked him why he shot the officer replied, I don't know.

It is a bit 'insensitive' - and that is compounded by the fact that it has been devised and erected by a MEXICAN resaurant.

I'm all for humour Paul, but I think the restaurant could have been more aware of how many people are sensitive now in the USA over this issue. I think they are gambling on the inevitable controversy bringing them masses of free publicity - but my fear is that it may bring them far more than that, and none of it good.

If he shoots accidentally when he's not even close range and the person has their hands up then he should quit. :joker: and cops have always been under stress, if they can't work under pressure quit.

This forum makes me quite uncomfortable lately. Seriously. And I actively enjoy satire / controversial humour. It's the responses that bother me, more than anything else. There's a sentiment behind a lot of them that is just plain ****ing worrying, if I'm being totally honest.

i don't see any controversy, only a restaurant trying to earn a few bucks through some topical advertising. Who on earth can find this thread offensive, this superior attitude coming through on the forums recently is really disturbing.

I haven't seen anyone saying people aren't allowed to exercise their right to free speech, just questioning what they're actually saying that's all. If I had my way there'd be no rules at all on here for example - but a common mistake of proponents of free speech is forgetting that it works both ways. The freedom to say what you want doesn't negate another person's freedom to criticise what you said.

Shhh! you can't have that opinion or you may be suspected of.....well something:shrug:
It's offensive and that's the end of it.
Owner, Ricky Camuglia, said they thought 'it was a cute play on words'
'We didn't think anybody would be offended by that, it was not our intent to offend anybody,' he said.
..how could he not have thought that it would offend to trivialise and exploit for personal gain/advertising something so important and the pain of grief that families are feeling and also the heightened emotions of many ..'a cute play on words' of people's deaths...I doubt that cute play of words would have been played had he lost a loved one himself...just really insensitive/trivialising and dumb and I guess showing that it's the bucks that matter with his increased profits...sign of the times sadly as they say...

what pain and grief that families are feeling?
This is a play on words on a particular action group not directly on any family or person.
Who said we should take them seriously, people have the right to dismiss them just as the group has the right to form and demonstrate.
This group do not represent dead people or their families

Yes. This group is in large part based on the grief of those who have lost loved ones due to police brutality. People just don't care.
