Greater Manchester Police received a call from a panicked resident who claimed they had seen a black panther hunting in fields just off Bury New Road.
The Sun Online reports the caller was adamant the creature was a large black panther and insisted to the operator the creature was "definitely not a dog and definitely not a cat".
GMP Sergeant John Foxcroft said the man said "he saw a large black panther and he saw it running across the fields".
