View Full Version : Waitering
Has anyone here ever had a waitering job? I had my first shift in one last week and going for another tonight.
Really enjoyed it last time- you certainly don't get bored. But it can be stressful, and also my legs hurt so ****ing much by the end :joker:

I commend people who are able to carry so many plates like its nothing. I'm so weak I don't think it would be an easy job for me :p I might have to look for that sort of work when I get back to university though.
The people in my restaurant were just carrying two plates at a time I think haha.

Oh really :p
I see some people carry plates all the way up their arms, and a week or so ago some poor skinny guy carried a large tray with all of our plates on it. It looked like a struggle but he managed, bless him.

Ugh, it's such a scary prospect dropping things :worry: I dropped a knife onto someone's lap last week, she almost shat herself

Bless you, I think you should take comfort in the fact that it's probably happened to most waiters/waitresses :p

Its the carrying of plates from a kitchen a short walk to a table and the ability to write things down that makes me always want to give them free extra money that I would give no other person

I couldn't carry multiple plates, I honestly don't know how people manage to balance them

I have a lot of respect for people in that line of work because I wouldn't be able to do it

We always stack our plates with the cutlery/uneaten food on top when we've finished, so it's easier for the waiter/waitress :p
Always give a tip too.

Ain't that the truth. I drank sooo much water last time.

Regarding sore legs - buy some amino acids pills. Really reduces ache.

he thought he was being funny...but great humour should never be mean or cruel..in fact the best comedy is when people can laugh at themselves not at other people....fortunately these people are in the minority but the trick is keep a calm head when all are losing theirs, try and help the person being bullied and tell the bullier quite polititely and clearly in front of everyone what a twat he is. Hopefully it embarrassed him into taking a long hard look in the mirror.

There are a lot of nice guests who I love to serve, but every now and again you just get that one person who is dedicated to being miserable.

I was working for an agency for events and I did like 10 waiting shifts, you will get use to it and holding and balancing plates (it looks hard but trust me it isn't, it takes getting use to it)

Putting stuff through the till takes ages, and someone came up to pay their bill and looked soooo annoyed at how long it was taking, I was thinking 'lighten up you miserable twat' and then as soon as someone else stepped in to do his bill he was really friendly towards them :bored:

Good man Braden. I did waitering for a brief spell when I was young, and know how hard it was, so I pile the plates as you, and always leave a tip too.
