TiBB is still friendly!
Iv'e been here since August last year so I don't know the members listed.

Things change and you need to get over it

Nothing stays the same. Things change, people move on. What's the problem?

Ruth

Seriously - comparing a forum to NASA? And who is this 'senior' member? I'm not interested in hearing the views of people who won't even give their name. Sounds to me as though they considered themselves part of a community, where newcomers aren't welcomed. That's their problem, not anybody elses.

Its unfair to say that its not a friendly place anymore. As a growing forum well will have new members and it is inevitable that some members leave. This might not be due to the forum its just that people change.

I get on with everybody and just like normal day to day living there are bound to be people that disagree with east other. If we all had the same opinions then it would be a pretty boring place.

Totally agree, i find this site as friendly as i did when i first joined people can't agree on everything, and people don't just leave because of the site they might leave because their too busy for example.

I think that I can understand what you are trying to say Sticks but to be honest times change, people move on for whatever reasons and trying to make newer members feel responsible for changes is unfair.

We have a lot more younger members these days which changes the dynamics slightly but that doesnt make it a bad thing. Many members seriously think that all the death announcements are over the top for this type of forum but do not insult you for it, so maybe a little mutual tolerance is what is needed here. At the end of the day in the grande scheme of things does it matter

I have not been a member for that long. A couple of months maybe. But I have found everyone to be friendly 99% of the time. Sticks, you are always quite serious in your posts. Whereas sometimes issues need to be treated seriously, a lot of the posts are just for fun. A forum is for people who have never met before, to discuss topics of their choice, and get to interact with new people, in my view. I have had a lot of fun on here, and shared jokes with many, but also tackled more serious issues. Sometimes things are more laid back than maybe you would like them to be it seems to me. I am not aware of any major row that took place, so I cannot comment. And members throwing personal insults at other members, in a hateful way, is not acceptable. I think if you read everyones posts above, you will see that most people are happy.

What a load of baloney. I'd expect this from someone who uses the expression Alma Mata - Isn't that an American thing. I thought it was Alma Mater, by the way.

I've been on the forum for just a couple of months and have found people to be 99% friendly.

Sticks, I'm getting fed up of this now. All you post about is how TiBB was no longer the place it was, about 4/5 years ago. But things change, that's how time works. I think it's kind of selfish that you do this. You can't join a forum and not expect new members over time. And I'm sure you know that TiBB is a largely advertised forum, and that loads of new members join each day. I'm sure it was a nicer community back then, but things change. IMO you're only acting like this because TiBB now has a lot of young members, unlike years ago when they were older.

There, my rant is over.

ah the amount of chat sites and forums ive seen similar threads to this in is huge, I think this site is great because it covers more than just big brother and has a wide variety of people with differing points of view.
Part of the fun is finding the people who regulary share the same views on things, the other part
of fun is in disagreeing with others.
the thing to remember is even though you might disagree with someone they are entitled to talk as much nonsense as they like, and they are friendly souls when the subject changes.
"forum snobbery" is a ridiculous concept and cliques are just for the narrow minded.

TiBB has always been a great forum IMO, without a doubt members are missed (Hooly especially - great guy) but the forum is still just as good, yes there are alot more younger members but the majority act older so theres no problem.

If you feel so strongly about it, Sticks, leave. There is a little "log out" button, press it, delete TiBB from your bookmarks and enjoy a better life without needing to get stressed at those 'pesky meddling kids'

I'm a relatively new member and you're isolating people by claiming new members are ruining the reputation of this site. You're pushing away good members that have a good contribution to this site.

Also, who is this "senior member" that seems to believe it's good to talk about issues without confronting them?

:bored: Perhaps if you spent less time complaining and more time getting to know the "new generation of posters" you would enjoy your time more at TiBB. It seems at the moment you spend your time looking for errors in other peoples posts, and the way they lead their arguments when maybe you should look at your own.

And people probably didn't reply to you when you first posted it because we come onto a forum for distraction from real life problems, and lets be honest - your posts aren't the most cheery, the last thing we need is to be complained about because we're new.

Sorry, but listing old members ect is making it sound as if you dont want the likes of us new members around.

Things change, if you don't like it, you know where the door is.
I was once a member of another website, it changed a lot, so I just left. There is no point sticking around and moaning. Because I love this forum and all the people on it make it intresting. Old or new!

I don't know what it was like 'back in the day' so I can't compare. But as far as I know, the forum at the moment is not a horrible place.

Exactly. The kind of post that Sticks has made would make any new members feel very unwelcome, and would probably put them off joining. Surely the forum should be welcoming new members?

Sticks, I can't help wondering if you are trying to stir things a bit! You come across as though you consider yourself superior to most other members. I've never been on any forum where there aren't changes, new members joining and old members leaving.

I have to say I agree with the most of the above.. Since I joined different members have come and gone but I dont think the place has turned bad or anything..
I dont spend as much time here as I used to but not because of the changes. Just because I am doing other things..
Actually, I quite enjoy coming on TiBB. If i'm feeling stressed I sometimes come here to take my mind off things and have a laugh.. There are alot worse forums than this..
And I think if TiBB is not to your liking then there are a multitude of other forums that will be..

I do find it odd that this thread is written by someone who started a thread purely because they were going away for a weekend and therefore wouldnt be near a pc......
I seem to remember that thread got a fair amount of pleasent replies even though the subject wasnt exactly "front page news".
why then would you want to insult us all by pompously announcing we are below standard?

Oh he does. King of the kids things he's the most superior on this forum and he has done for a while.

I personally don't think you like seeing people 'having fun' on the forum because your constantly miserable. If your not announcing all these deaths then your complaining. If your not complaining then your insulting people with all this spell checker bull.

Sorry if I have offended any one of the new generation, and I was not discouraging new members. My original piece was done on the snippets site, and I tried to make it fit in with the interchange there and keep the same style and go with the flow of how the snippets were being produced.

It was also done on the morning when two posters managed to get into what I understand was a vitriolic spat. I understand they later made up.

My observation came when we had CBB going and I came into the fray to put another side in the Shilpa V Jade issue, because I had studied Jade's form from her first time. I tried to be as reasoned as I could and trying to cite examples and precedent, but the tone of debate from some members became quite personal, which I could not recall happening amongst those who are sadly no longer with us. Seeing the vitriolic posts there, was quite depressing and was reminiscent of another forum where someone did make threats of physical violence against me. (I also had some unsavoury phone calls that may have been generated because of that.)

In the old days we did have fun, sort of like the E-nuptials, where we had virtual trips with Floss and Bunty, but those were in the days before Paul and Helen broke up. The interchange was genteel. So is this a generational thing with the next generation more robust than our generation

BTW Alma Mater (I concede the spelling) if I recall correctly is Latin for "ones old university"

So in short, I am a bit too long in the tooth?

Ok, I understand your point a little more now, Sticks.

I still don't think that newer generation posters are the cause for all of the arguments and fights on TiBB, however. I think it's simply what comes with this site becoming more popular and having more members - not everyone is going to read the rules and follow them to a tee.

Well i joined 2 August 2006 with my old acount (emilee-imogen) And i thought it was a really friendly forum. Probably the friendliest ive been on. Then i rejoined this year with a new account. And i dont think mch has changed. Still the same lovely people who were online then.

I think this forum is a really nice place to be, and everyone is really nice. :xyxwave:

Did it ever occur to you that someone who would defend and justify the behaviour of some of the individuals in CBB5 deserves every piece of hostility they get?

Sounds like you brought it on yourself, and you shouldnt be blaming the random personnel of the forum.

A forum is what you make it, you cant expect to come to an interactive site and be entertained. It is as much your responsibility to be involved as it is others to involve you.

I am unsure why you felt that a minor altercation between a few members (me being one of them) upset the dynamics of the forum, reading some old posts and being members of loads of forums over the years, it is pretty normal for members to clash, e-fight or flame each other!

Some of the posts i have read on this site are 3-5 years old, and conflict still existed then so painting a picture of utopia is misleading. Its like when my aunt says there was no crime in the old days and then i read Oliver Twist!!!

From what i have read, i feel you dont feel apart of TIBB anymore, which is sad. But maybe you need to take ownership as a member and come up with solutions rather than solely point out the problem. When you just say what the problem is you get people on the defensive and that leads to no solution being found.

So why not start now and suggest things that will make you feel more included.....

There is no need to feel down mate, i dont think anyone on this forum would wish you harm, thigs got pretty heated during the last cbb and it spilt over into the viewers reaction to what they witnessed. surely you realise now that trying to defend Jade Goody was always going to be going against the average bb viewers opinion.

I really don't think you have offended anyone, and I`m certain you are a valued member of TIBB. Personally all I have felt is that some of your very recent posts have been a bit kamikaze in that they were certainly controversial. You even said yourself that you were going to regret coming out of retirement to be Devil's advocate to Jade.In truth, defending Jade the first time round was very different to the second !! and you obviously knew it ? And then there was the spelling issue which I think was odd because you must know that some people have a real issue with that ,and some people want to post fast and furious and rightly don`t give a damn about spelling. All I can say is that i'm over the moon about that one as I now have Firefox spell check because of it!!! so no complaints from me. You must stay around Sticks coz you offer more than you think!! Yes, coz was underlined ,but wtf.
I think TIBB has real character, a reasonable sized community and a lot of fun. 'Stick' around !!

Oh Sticks you managed to get me again I actually thought we'd made the paper for a second.Just like back in the days when we had endless posts about P & H spottings and we all dashed in the thread to see new pics of your vans:laugh:
I wish I was able to get on here before when this topic was starting to get misunderstood.
I like to think that every change over the years has been good and there is still a sense of family here that there always was.As part of that 'family' you have to learn a valuable lesson abut Sticks he has a sense of humour that takes a while to understand but once you get him you'll see he's a legend. He would never intentionally offend anyone (although his santa claus grave once came close)
anyway I'd just like to add my thoughts that after being away for a while it's clear that things have moved on which I am sorry about. That's not to exclude any new member I've always done my best over the years to try and make everyone welcome. But to remember some of the past members that were essential to making the forum what it is today.
It may not be real life but real friendships were formed and I'm sad to see many of them have moved on.
It would be lovely to hear that people were ok.having had problems getting on the forum myself I do wonder if people are lurking somewhere trying to get to talk again:sad:

This is the friendliest forum I've been on - we have really nice, friendly members and plenty open to discussion. Obviously there's going to be the odd person who doesn't have the same train of thought. And there will always be differences of opinion as well because that's what a forum's about - it's healthy and good to hear different takes on things and as a result end up with a good all-round knowledge of what people are like, the sorts of things people agree/disagree on etc. What is the most important IMO is the WAY in which people choose to convey their opinions, i.e. either in a respectful manner, or just resorting to arguing, insults, and blatant ignorance of any other argument or justification.

I really don't think TiBB is becoming worsened as time goes on and by the arrival of new members and things like that; rather, it opens up more minds and encourages more people to get talking!

Thats really the only thing i feel guilty about.... soo For my birthday im asking for a laptop with wireless internet so then i can spend time with them but still be on the compurter. :bouncy:
