Ahh my dream! A whole thread on Sociology. Thank yoo Sasha!

Ok, so lets discuss suicide.
What the hell are the phenomenologists on about when they say suicide doesn't exist. They're pure nuts.

I have to say I hold a place in my heart for Marxists. I feel sorry for them cos they're all schizo.

sucide exists as people dont know their function in life. If you had a purpose you would want to fulfil it

FUNCTIONALISM RULES

Gawd Sasha, you're a right hardcore functionalist aren't you. :laugh2:

I like functionalist, it's not extreme - I like their idea of social solidarity and value consensus. They're like hippies.

Sasha

why was something sooo serious like sociology moved from serious discussion to general?

Sociology underpins all of the subject in serious - so that is a bit weird!!!

Lauren

Sociology is society.
Without sociology we would not understand society. Travesty!

lol@hippies

I just believe they (functionalist) make sense. Everyone and everything should have a function. It makes the world go around.

For example you mentioned crime in the other thread, criminals ARE needed in this country for example. Without crime there will be NO police, judges, prision officers, builders to build prisions, insurance companies etc.

Crime gives people functions in life

It instills social solidarity and maintains rule. I'm totally in support of this view. But I don't see how some madman rapist is functional to the social solidarity of society.

Aww, I also like interactionists. They're sweet LOL, they only have a couple of theories cos they're so bad.

lol@interactionalist

I like marxism, but feel that post globalisation to impose communism on people when they are teased by what capitalism can offer is cruel

Lauren

Yeah, they were so sure communism would overtake capitalism once the means of production changed. Unfortunately they said this hundreds of years ago and it hasn't happened yet LOL. Poor sods.
