Well he has done himself a lot of good with this comment, I think not.
What a mess,it really just gets worse.
Labour does seem to have a death wish at present, only 2 candidates wanted on the ballot then one says this.
The policies.ideas he outlined yesterday too are almost copies of what Corbyn would do anyway.
The Conservatives must be wondering how they got this lucky, at present.

It shocks me that someone in the public eye representing a political party could make such a ridiculous, out of place comment. And the clever money would be on Theresa May... Owen Smith doesn't look like he could smash his way out of a paper bag.

Once again Labour have a candidate for leader who is unelectable. When will they learn that they need a leader who appeals to the electorate? I can't see them winning any election in this country for the forseeable future. Corbyn has no chance. This is extremely worrying because in politics we need an opposition.

I actually love Corbyn for the way he has shaken up the left, got them to talk, got them to think about how they want the party to go forward. Of course he has no chance, do you ever think he thought he did? What he represents is bringing Labour out of the Blairite mentality and making a proper party. He doesn't intend, or want to be PM. He wants to shake things up and make Labour rethink, because obviously something needs doing. Wouldn't hurt the tories to do the same.

I was so happy to see this, he may ( lol) attempt to pass it as rhetoric but even onomatopoeia has to be tempered in the political arena...you would think the spin doctor would know this :joker:
Smith may have stolen Corbyns policies but he's a looooong way off being credible, more showman than statesman.

It was a poor metaphor from a politician in the public eye. I can imagine his press officer fainting as the words issued from Smith's mouth. It weakens him as a viable candidate for leader and he should have known better.

I agree, I also however don't think of him or see him as a viable leadership contender anyway.
In fact this whole leadership election is a farce and a waste of time in my view.

What find is, when someone in the Tory party does something stupid, most people, including supporters, comment negatively on it. But when it's someone in Labour who makes a stupid comment - usually anti-Semitic or sexist - the people on the left wriggle around deflecting it, and try to draw negative attention back to the Tories. As this post demonstrates.

All I have seen here is even those from Labour saying this was a silly comment, there is nothing wrong at all in pointing out at the same time that politicians of all parties say stupid things, not just the Labour party.
I find no one on here or off here who is on the left of politics, like myself, who would in any way support anyone making a genuine anti-semitic comment from whoever or whatever party it came from.
Your almost near mission of branding 'generally' those on the left, as anti semitic is tiresome to be quite honest and I am one who is dismayed at the getting away with generalising as to same every chance you get to.
The people on the left you say, not some, not a few, not many ,not even just the hierarchy but you state above, the people on the left , your words.
well I am on the left, I am a Labour party member and I am certainly not anti semitic in any shape or form, thank you very much.
I will fight back at that as it is a very serious accusation to make against a whole grouping of people on a political side.
I have also yet to see anything where, with respect, you have denounced Boris Johnson for any of his views and stupid, careless comments.
It is wrong for anyone in Labour to make stupid, unguarded and offensive comments. MPs, members or supporters.
However that is also the case for anyone in other parties too as well, which is what the post you try to ridicule, was actually addressing.

I am coming round to the view if the MPs cannot and will not accept the result of this new leadership contest, that what you state above may well come to fruition.
I am not now so sure that would be bad thing either.
Very uncharted waters admittedly but one which could just bring great rewards in the end.

Labour and Corbyn in particular have been preaching about what an inclusive party labour is. Its one of his key mandates. Yet here he is, with him and his supporters actively trying to purge the party of anyone with views different to his own. How people don't see the hypocrisy in this man, and how dangerous, and nasty he really is, is beyond me.

What a guy
The economy isn’t working for millions of our people. Real wages have fallen, insecurity and low-paid jobs are spreading, investment is stagnating, corporate scandals are multiplying and Britain is heading for another downturn.
Economic failure is a central reason why people are no longer prepared to accept politics as usual. It’s one of the reasons I was elected Labour leader in a landslide 10 months ago – and why there can be no going back to a broken economic model or the politics of the past. Even Theresa May understands she has to pay lip service to change in the workplace and the boardroom.
In the past couple of weeks, a string of high street corporate names – Sports Direct, BHS, Lloyds, Byron burger chain – has driven home the reality faced by a huge number of workers today: a race to the bottom in insecurity, low pay, stress and exploitation.

you miss the point Arista, labour encompasses many views, that's what made it successful. If any are removed, it will kill labour as a viable government.

What a load of rot Livia, as usual a misconstrued comment however unfortunately worded is blown up by the media while actual insults by other politicians are waived for some unknown reason or referred to even more bizarrely as 'charm'.

Well said Joey, it is really disingenuous to make such generalised remarks. I had already denounced the comment but that was conveniently overlooked for the chance to suggest I was deflecting the issue.
I tend not to 'wriggle' that would infer I was some sort of worm or insect...the type that 'swarm' perhaps? I heard someone refer to semites in this way once, it seemed to pass relatively unnoticed at the time.

You know, Demolition Red used the term "swarm". I picked up on it, but you said not a word about it. Funny that. You don't like "wriggle" now"? I can't keep up.
The reason I didn't acknowledge that you'd denounced the comment is that I hardly ever read anything you write. And we've got miles and miles off topic now, while you and joey dissect everything I say. You can both assume that I'm never referring to either of you unless I say your names. You and Joey have to stop taking my references to people on the left so personally. It detracts terribly from the thread...

It was David Cameron actually that I was referring to not DR, she was most likely referencing his 'swarm' comment.
I have noticed you cherry pick my posts and manipulate them for your own ends, regularly.

You detracted from the thread with respect when you raised again the anti semitism card against 'the people on the left'.
No one else did that, only you.
You should make clear at the time of your posting, that you do not mean all the people on the left and certainly not other members who are of the left and on here.
Otherwise then in response to a general term as, 'the people on the left'.
On the contrary, it is more likely the assumption should be, in the absence of any qualifying addition, that you do mean all those on the left, members here and otherwise.
I have done and will fight against antisemitism all my life.
While likely you may see people on the left as possibly beneath you and so fair game for wild accusations of being anti semitic.
I however know I have worth and just being on the left of politics does not make me any less credible or worthy than you on the right, and it certainly does 'not' make me and innocent others you accuse, on and off here, anti semitic either..
I still see no reason at all why anti semitism ever had to be made an issue here but only you initially brought it up, you created the detraction of the comments here onto it,no one else, with respect.
