Donald Trump calls Obama 'founder of ISIS'

Donald Trump on Wednesday repeatedly called President Barack Obama the "founder" of ISIS and labeled Hillary Clinton the "co-founder after which Clinton used his comments to say they show he is not fit to be president.

At a rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Trump also said that ISIS "honors" Obama -- who the GOP nominee referred to as "Barack Hussein Obama."

After lamenting the "mistake" the US made by going to war in Iraq -- a conflict he repeatedly says that he opposed, despite evidence to the contrary -- Trump then criticized Obama's attempts to "clean up."

"Normally you want to clean up; he made a bigger mess out of it. He made such a mess. And then you had Hillary with Libya, so sad," Trump said.

"In fact, in many respects, you know they honor president Obama. ISIS is honoring President Obama. He is the founder of ISIS. He's the founder of ISIS, OK? He's the founder. He founded ISIS."

He then said that the "co-founder" of ISIS was Clinton.

Clinton campaign adviser Jake Sullivan on Thursday accused Trump of "echoing the talks of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin."

"This is another example of Donald Trump trash-talking the United States," Sullivan said in a statement. "It goes without saying that this is a false claim from a presidential candidate with an aversion to the truth and an unprecedented lack of knowledge."

In an interview and campaign event in Florida on Thursday, Trump doubled down on his comments.

"Oh boy, is ISIS hoping for her," Trump said during an appearance before home builders in Miami Beach, portraying Clinton as lazy. "ISIS will hand her the most valuable player award. Her only competition is Barack Obama."

"He was the founder of ISIS, absolutely," Trump said of Obama earlier on CNBC. "The way he removed our troops -- you shouldn't have gone in. I was against the war in Iraq. Totally against it."

"That mistake was made. It was a horrible mistake -- one of the worst mistakes in the history of our country. We destabilized the Middle East and we've been paying the price for it for years. He was the founder -- absolutely, the founder. In fact, in sports they have awards, he gets the most valuable player award. Him and Hillary. I mean she gets it, too. I gave them co-founder if you really looked at the speech."/

The latest in a line of gaffs by Trump since the convention. The fight woth the Khan family, Melanias 'dodgy' immigration status when she first started modelling in te US, refusing to endorse prominent Republicans like John McCain and Paul Ryan and when he finally endorsed them it was the most unconvincing public speech he's made so far in the campaign, implying that the 2nd Amendment people should 'take care' or Hillary - strange but the media seem to forget she made an equally disgusting comment about Obama in 2008 - and now this ludicrous suggestion the Obama founded ISIS.

The polls have Hillary with a 8 - 15 point lead across the board A lead this big is unprecedented in August. Obama had a lead of 8 over McCain in 2008 but he didnt get that until October. It has to be said that if Hillary was a better candidate them she might even have it sown up already.

Found this literally after I read LT's post. (Was on my daily jog for Donald Trump comedy)

Donald Trump: I meant that Obama founded ISIS, literally
http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/11/politics/donald-trump-hugh-hewitt-obama-founder-isis/

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump said Thursday that he meant exactly what he said when he called President Barack Obama the "founder of ISIS" and objected when a conservative radio show host tried to clarify the GOP nominee's position.

Trump was asked by host Hugh Hewitt about the comments Trump made Wednesday night in Florida, and Hewitt said he understood Trump to mean "that he (Obama) created the vacuum, he lost the peace."

Trump objected.

"No, I meant he's the founder of ISIS," Trump said. "I do. He was the most valuable player. I give him the most valuable player award. I give her, too, by the way, Hillary Clinton."

Hewitt pushed back again, saying that Obama is "not sympathetic" to ISIS and "hates" and is "trying to kill them."

"I don't care," Trump said, according to a show transcript. "He was the founder. His, the way he got out of Iraq was that that was the founding of ISIS, okay?"

Hewitt and Trump went back and forth after that, with Hewitt warning Trump that his critics would seize on his use of "founder" as more example of Trump being loose with words.

Clinton later hit back on Thursday on Twitter, saying it was Trump who was unfit to be president.

"It can be difficult to muster outrage as frequently as Donald Trump should cause it, but his smear against President Obama requires it," Clinton tweeted. "No, Barack Obama is not the founder of ISIS. ... Anyone willing to sink so low, so often should never be allowed to serve as our Commander-in-Chief."

Trump has been under near-constant scrutiny for his discussion of sensitive world events, with his opponents using favorable comments he's made toward Vladimir Putin and other dictators as evidence of misplaced priorities.
Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, one of the most senior Republicans to oppose Trump, said her decision came down to Trump making the world a "more dangerous" place, in her estimation.

While Trump remains around 40% in national polling, Obama's approval rating was at 54% after the Democratic convention, according to CNN polling.

But the GOP nominee remained steadfast, saying it was "no mistake" what he said, standing by his labeling of the Democratic opponent as a "co-founder."
"Do you not like that?" Trump asked Hewitt.

"I think I would say they created, they lost the peace. They created the Libyan vacuum, they created the vacuum into which ISIS came, but they didn't create ISIS. That's what I would say," Hewitt said.

"Well, I disagree," Trump replied, and Hewitt moved on.

In 2007, however, Trump actually supported a rapid withdrawal from Iraq, despite hitting Obama for his drawdown years later.

"You know how they get out? They get out," Trump told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in 2007. "That's how they get out. Declare victory and leave, because I'll tell you, this country is just going to get further bogged down. They're in a civil war over there, Wolf. There's nothing that we're going to be able to do with a civil war. They are in a major civil war."

The comments from 2007 were resurfaced Thursday by Buzzfeed.
On Wednesday night, former ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul hit Trump on the comments, saying they mimicked Russian talking points designed to sow anger toward the US and the West.

"BTW, Trumps line that Obama founded ISIS echoes exactly a myth propagated by Russian state-controlled media and bloggers," McFaul tweeted.

Clinton's campaign also ripped Trump's comments as damaging to the country, in a statement from policy adviser Jake Sullivan.

"This is another example of Donald Trump trash-talking the United States," Sullivan said. "It goes without saying that this is a false claim from a presidential candidate with an aversion to the truth and an unprecedented lack of knowledge. What's remarkable about Trump's comments is that once again, he's echoing the talking points of Putin and our adversaries to attack American leaders and American interests, while failing to offer any serious plans to confront terrorism or make this country more secure."

Really want to go listen to this through YT or something, but CBB is coming on soon.

The west is responsible for the state of the middle east but that's different from stirring up hatred towards one person (whose administration wasn't even the catalyst for what the Middle East has become) by emphasizing his middle name to suggest a direct link to IS.

It's completely different, to suggest otherwise is to simplify it to a point where it no longer resembles the original intent.

No, I have seen plenty of people post on here that the west is responsible for the formation of IS and for them thriving. Obama is the president of the most powerful country in the west. This is just Trump endorsing the thoughts of plenty of people who think that IS is the result of the victimisation of the Middle East by the west, an excuse for their existence.

Why are people shocked at what trump says? This isn't the most serious spurious allegation he's made. I'm no more outraged at this than at anything else he said.

Its not at all like Brexit in that these polls are actually reliable and there are a couple hundred years of elections to look at and draw conclusions. I didnt get anything wrong about Brexit; I didnt comment on it.

HRC has a bigger lead than Obama had over MCCain in 2008 and, of course, Obama slaughtered McCain in 2008. What else can we deduce? THe only thing that can save Trump is if there is genuine scandal in the Dems camp. Polls have Hillary up by 4 in Georgia; a pinned on GOP state that the dems have not held since 1992. Trump should be up by double figures in Georgia not down by 4. HRC is up by double figures in New Hampshire where she lost in the primaries by over 10 to Bernie but Trump won by over 10. How on earth has such a swing happened? He's losing and the fact that he is seriously floating the idea of the election being a fix kind of reinforced that. Strange but he wasnt saying it was fixed when he was winning.
