[The Yorkshire Terrier also
suffered serious injuries in
the attack and received
emergency veterinary care.]

[Police added the suspect dog was captured and taken to kennels.
Its owner was arrested in connection with the attack and later released on police bail pending further inquiries.]

Such a sad and ultimately preventable tragedy.

I imagine the dog's owner is to blame, most dogs are easy to tame with a bit of love and attention and I'm guessing the poor dog didn't get much of either. Dogs from good homes are rarely aggressive.

If a Dog is under your control
you can hold it solid
with the Lead.

Yes Dezzy the owner of the Killer Dog
(not banned though)
is 100% at fault

Poor man. Ugh it's so annoying/awful when you encounter a dog off its lead whilst walking your dog.

Well if you own a dog like that (presumably he was some sort of Bull terrier since there was alot of confusion over whether or not it was a banned breed) you should be extra vigilant in making sure your garden is secure and the dog is under your control when its out. It doesn't matter whether the dog is loved or not imo, if you own a dog like that, it's potentially a danger to people. Dogs can be unpredictable, all dogs can be

Um at the dog being returned to the owner. Surely it should have been put down?

Surely its the owner that needs chaining up , my partner is a postie and you would not believe the amount of people that are totally irresponsible with dogs, there are people who can no longer have mail delivered to their homes because they do not control their animals ! they still leave gates open so the dog can run out and attack < my partner was bitten badly in the thigh by a dog that was supposedly chained up, he's been bitten through letter boxes ! who would like a job that risks very painful dog bites on a daily basis.

Someone chucked the man a knife to stab the Killer Dog
but he was not able to do much,
or would not stab it.
The Killer Dog was out of its zone
without the owner.
This was all yesterday

Total Lack of care.

It's not even so bad in England, over here there's dogs roaming around everywhere. The people up the road from us have a rhodesian ridgeback who is always out and about on his own :worry:

ETA : we don't seem to have as much of an issue with Staffies etc being used as status symbols though

No, I don't think so, he's never attacked anyone or any other dog as far as I know but they're on the dangerous dogs list

oh my what horrible story, poor man! :(
...But yeah I don't see why people should be allowed to bread these aggressive dogs, mistreat them and then blame the animal when it gets out of hand and attacks someone. I'm sorry but all blame goes to the owner, the dog shouldn't of been given back to the owner until they had figured out what drove the dog to do such a thing.

I agree with this.
There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

I'd support that Kizzy,
I lost my Dog earlier this year but have another now, I agree with microchipping and would agree with the licence too.

I also think all Dogs in public should be on a lead too.
What astounds me with this story is the Dog had been just returned to the owner.
Before they did that, they should have made sure his home area was safe, adequate fencing etc.

No doubt however this is the owners fault as to not having control of it or making sure it was under control.
