Yeah, I heard that as well. Apparently it was due to some 'mystery object' on the rails. I sincerely hope it wasn't put there by some people messing about, because that'd just be horrendous. I feel terrible that one person lost their life through it as well - just an innocent train journey. My sympathies also go out to the person's family, as well as to all the people left traumatised by it.

i think Richard Branson said he thought it was a problem with the points.. if thats so, Network rail are in deep sh*t.

Oh poop.
Thats the EXACT same line I'm going to be going alone on Virgin trains in... what... less than 2 weeks?

Sympathy to families and relatives of all those injured/involved.

The trains are built like tanks Lauren, you should be safe.. still scary though, knowing what can happen. I love train journeys!! .. the longer the better! .. I went from Penzance to Edinbugh on a train once ... loved it !!

Last month i went to Newport on a train, ( about 80 miles) .. it only cost £13 .. If i go to London ( same distance, other direction) .. £40 ????

It's only costing me £38 single return to go from Newcastle -> Carlisle -> Lancaster. So thats pretty good, but I don't really go on trains often, it's been years since I was last on one. It's only a 2 hour+ journey though, but I'll be by myself. I'm not scared of trains though (thankfully!).

Ok, so now even network rail are saying it was a problem with the points even though they were allegedly checked 3 weeks ago. Someone is going to be in trouble!

You will be fine Lauren there are more road accidents than train crashes. I hated the underground at London always glad when i reached my destination. I ve only ever been on a Train one I am not that keen on them. Too fast.

My heart goes out to all those injured

Yeah, too right - I would've had to miss it
Plus if my Open Day was yesterday I'd have been dead/injured yesterday, because that was the train I'd be taking home (same time and everything).

Hopefully they wont scapegoat anyone though.. I was at work when it happened in Glasgow Central and we had people waiting for the train to arrive, just as it got through to us that it wasn't going to arrive..
