Swedish pop star Zara Larsson makes her bid for (solo) US chart glory on Friday (September 2) with new single, “Ain’t My Fault.” The song was co-written with “Never Forget You” cohort MNEK and is literally about stealing your man. “The topic is me talking to a girl about her man and I basically stole her man,” the 18-year-old said in an interview with Shazam. “I’m like, ‘It’s not my fault that I’m better than you’… and I don’t know why we wrote it because I would never say something like that to a girl. No! We’re supposed to team. If we could tweak the lyrics that would be great.”
That interview was recorded in March, so she had time to come at the issue from a slightly different angle. However, there’s another layer to the song. “It’s so much about that slut-shaming,” Zara added. “Two girls always competitive. I don’t like that.” Her goal? “I just want to be able to sing about stuff I can I can actually say and stand for in real life.”
