Sainsburies also sell alot of things for comic relief...noses, car freshners, pin badges, giggle balls, red hair spray. You can see them all here (http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/comic_relief/getting_involved/Merchandise/Red+Nose+Day+products/red_nose_day_merchandise.htm)

Not going to happen

Ireland is a Catholic country, and as Comic Relief has given money to organisations like the International Planned Parenthood, who carry out abortions, I suspect such a move would be blocked. As a Christian I can not in good conscience give to this organisation given its support of these organisations that carry out abortions by giving them grants.

For further information, see the link I gave earlier to the Society for the Protection of the Unborn child.

They may do good elsewhere, but rat poison is 98% flour and 2% poison. Anyone one eat rat poison?

My hope was to get more involved in it this year. We're doing a Wear Something Red Day soon, and I intend to donate more than necessary (which will be the £1), and then collectively, our charity committee donates the money to poverty-stricken areas.

To be fair, Andy is right. If everyone had your attitude then nothing would be done atall.

If 5 million people thought what you did so didn't spare a pound then that's £5M which could have helped a hell of a lot of people.

You had better donate something this year.

:bored: Each of these 'shows' raise like 20 million pound a year. Which increase each year. Put all these donations together and you've at least got a couple of a hundred thousand. Shouldn't this be enough to help. I get it's nice an all, but theres the fact that we also pay hundreds of pounds of tax a month. This sorta tax stuff annoys me, so I won't get into it. But seriously, for like hundred of years now we've raised MILLIONS of pounds for charity and all they get is a water tap. Where is it going?

Mark, for someone who's 14 you don't half sound like my grandad.

Anyway, to be fair you don't know much about the charities. EVERY penny goes to help various projects around the world. 100 Million pound is NEVER going to stop poverty in the world, it's a continuous thing which carries on throughout the year, each and every year.

You're the only person i know to be against it. It's an amazing 'show' which provides a lot of 'hope' for people who wouldn't have had that without 'these shows' and therefore the money raised.

And I'm not against it, sorta. I get what you mean, that it helps those less fortunate and such, but it's every year they do it. What happened to the £20 million you raised for the charity last year? Doesn't 'Children In Need' support cases in the UK?

I always get confused what comic releif is. What actually does it help (charity?)

Bells
28-02-2007, 08:55 PM
LOL there's a plan Simon.

And as far as I'm aware Sophie, yeah Children In Need does donate some of its money to charities in the UK. There's plenty of scope to help out unfortunate people in this country if you wish to! But at the same time IMO it's good that we have the opportunity to help elsewhere as well.

Legend
28-02-2007, 08:58 PM
Children in Need helps people in the UK, the majority of it goes to causes in the UK.

People in Africa aren't able to 'start at home', they're not able to get clean water to live nevermind provide millions a year for their own country hence why countries like this do stuff like it to help them.

And as for the '20M raised last year'... that has helped people in the last year all over the world. £20M is a lot of money but it can go so quick when there is cases all over the world that are in need of it, £20M can't just stop poverty so that's why it's done every year.

I'm shocked that people are as good as against it and just don't have an interest/care in poverty in the world.

Not only that but it's something for us to watch, it's entertaining. What about all the money you GAVE to ITV whilst voting for Leona? That money isn't going to help poverty, it's going to make some rich mans bank balance a lot bigger. Oh sorry, does 10p from each call go to charity? They're too generous.

Comic Relief provides entertainment and changes people's lives... X-Factor provides people with entertainment and doesn't exactly have as much as an impact/change on someones life.

like i said charity satrts at home - so i will give myself some money

Well you're very selfish aren't you?

If it really does start 'at home', in England as you keep saying then there are plenty of websites which will give you a lot of information on how to get involved in various charity events to help people in England.

I think it's probably more important to give money too poorer countries, who desperatly need it for basic things like water, food, clothes ect.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but as a general statement:

It's always ideal to help people less fortunate than yourself - and if you get the chance, even more so - wherever the people may be from.

Saying 'i will give money to myself' makes you sound selfish and when you said 'that's their life' but they're not able to do anything about it themselves. You probably only bought the red nose to cover a spot anyway.

Therefore, it's our job to donate SOMETHING and at least give a thought to less fortunate people. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

I know it's not. When i say stuff like that i always think that the majority of people are charitable and will give something. And 'it's our job' is a saying.

Oh god just forget it, i just really thought that everyone really loved Comic Relief and cared about it.

Anyhow...

What date is it on?

Item 1
Why have you started another thread, when this thread is still going (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=56254) :nono:

I suggest the next MOD that comes by should merge these two threads

Item 2
If you want to give money to charities (Home or overseas) there are other ways to do it other than the spectacle that is Comic relief. As a Christian I will not be involved as I stated on the other thread, because Comic releif has given grants to organisations that carry out abortions. (See 2 John 11) (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20John%201:11%20;&version=31;)

Remember Rat poision is 98% flour and only 2% poison - anyone fancy eating rat poison

See this press release (http://www.spuc.org.uk/news/releases/2005/march7)
