"His announcement came after an unnamed Sunday newspaper reportedly threatened to publish a story revealing his homosexuality"

It's ridiculous that this is still a 'threat'. He needs to name and shame the paper that was threatening him.

*cough*

if outraged from Tibbesville would READ the article

"These guidelines say that gay clergy must be celibate and are not allowed to marry."

So it would be news

If you want to be outraged be outraged at the ridiculous cult that employs him and their stupid rules

It says he's in a "celibate relationship" so he hasn't broken any rules. His sexuality should have remained private unless felt comfortable sharing it. That's why people have a problem with a newspaper threatening to out him

Is there any proof to say that he isn't celibate? Oh wait no. Just because you personally think someone isn't telling the truth it's not an excuse to publicly out someone in the media. Deary deary me

Why is it ridiculous that they've employed him? And it wouldn't be news if he wasn't gay for a fact

I don't know why, it would be up to him because it's his sexuality.

Because they are in Public Life
so the Public want to read it in their Mirror
or Sun etc

Someone's sexuality shouldn't be used as fodder to feed the thirsty appetites of Mirror and Sun readers.

I think it's good that he's out. There are a lot of gay Christians who will be heartened by having a gay bishop. It's a step toward people taking other people's sexuality as being their own business. If the C of E thinks he was the best man to become a bishop, that's all that anyone needs to know.

You're trying to justify him being threatened to be outed by saying you don't think he's celibate. Which is very silly imo

Well if the story that a paper was going to do that (and a far as I am aware that is an unsubstantiated rumor) they probably thought he was breaking the COE rules and so it was a story

I disagree, there's a difference between wanting to know something and having a right to know. There's no need for the public to know his sexuality so it should remain his decision.

The appointment of the bishop of Grantham was a "major error", the conservative Anglican group Gafcon has said.

Bishop Nicholas Chamberlain revealed he was gay and in relationship on Friday.
He was consecrated by the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby - who has said he knew about the bishop's sexuality.

But Gafcon, a group which includes conservative Anglicans around the world, said there had been an "element of secrecy" in his appointment.

A statement from Gafcon said the news about Bishop Chamberlain would "exacerbate" divisions within the Church of England and the wider Anglican world.

I agree Jamie.

Anyway why he should be judged differently for his sexuality is ridiculous.
