A really sweet story.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA (KTRK) --
One woman in Brisbane, Australia knew something 'fishy' was going on with her pet goldfish, Conquer and rushed him to the vet. The Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Services center ran a physical exam on the fish and it turns out a single, black pebble was lodged in the back of Conquer's throat.

"It's certainly not uncommon for fish to pick up pebbles in their tanks, however they are usually able to expel them without any dramas," said veterinary nurse, Madeline Rienecker. "Conquer's eyes were obviously bigger than his belly on that day."

Luckily, Conquer's mom was observant.

"Had she not noticed the subtle changes in her pet, he would surely have starved," said Rienecker.

The clinic told Conquer's mom they could perform a life-saving surgery which would cost $500. Conquer's mom didn't hesitate to pay the bill.

"Most people wouldn't bat an eyelid spending this money on a dog, cat or child, so why would we value our beautiful exotic pets any less," said Rienecker. "While there has been quite a lot of fuss made over the cost of the procedure, we are really just focused on getting a great outcome for the pet, and their worried owner."

Conquer was taken in for emergency surgery, anesthetized and prepped to have the pebble removed.

"The procedure was quite quick after Conquer had been anesthetized," said Rienecker.

Veterinarians gently propped open his mouth and extracted the pebble with forceps.

"He recovered remarkably well. He is now healthy and happy," said Rienecker.

Conquer is now back at home with his wonderful family.

Are you suggesting something is fishy?

A bit rude of th to charge $500 to stick tweezers down its throaty to pull out a pebble.

A nice ending to a very fishy beginning.

I imagine it's a very specialized field and not much competition for fish surgery. Probably this place operates more as an ER for pets... in that case, $500 would be a bargain

I read a similar story a little while back about a family who paid for their goldfish to have a tumor removed. People can say "It's just a fish" all they like but if that's how someone feels then they'd have no business having a pet fish in the first place. If you have a pet, you care for it, fish or otherwise.

Oh that wasn't referring to you :joker::joker: It was just a general comment towards what I assume some people will be saying in response to this, I remember some people saying it when I read the last story like this

You'll have to forgive Niamh, she is Irish. The rivers there are about 80 proof so she'll have never come into contact with fish in the wild.

This really isn't shocking. I know people who have a brand new iPhone which costs over 500 bucks, but they get food stamps from the government to buy their children food. I think this woman is really sweet for using that money on another living thing and not on herself.

if only the NHS was as diligent for the british people as this woman was for her fish. anything to save a life. quite a lesson. but they'd rather argue over hours and vacation days.
