Mary Berry has announced she is to leave The Great British Bake Off ahead of the show's move to Channel 4.
"What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of 7 years of magic in a tent - The Great British Bake Off. The Bake Off family - Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter," she said in a statement.
"My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one. I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.
"I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it.
She added: "Farewell to soggy bottoms."

Not surprised at this decision at all, Mary is 81 she doesn't need the grief of taking the programme down the commercial route

I agree with her decision but it's not bake off anymore
The production company have ruined it and will lost a huge chunk of their audience out of anger etc for giving it away

I also agree with her decision, the bake off moving to Channel 4 is a bad decision for the viewers as well i think
some respect for Mary, i hope she'll get another cooking show on the BBC :)

I've never watched Bake Off but I'm finding all of this really interesting still  Why on earth wouldn't the production company have discussed the possible move with Mel/Sue/Mary etc before agreeing anything with CH4? This could end up being a massive fail for them. Isn't Mary one of the biggest draws? She's the one I hear getting talked about all the time when people discuss the show. Good for her anyway. I'd imagine she will have been offered a great deal of money to stay so it's quite heart warming (and probably unusual in the TV industry) that she's based her decision on loyalty

I agree Livia. But if they are not, then they darn well should be. Hope it is their undoing selling it on elsewhere. If it goes gradually down the pan then their greed over some loyalty to the Beeb and presenters who made the programme so watchable, will backfire on the production Company.

Sad to hear about this, but I applaud her, Mel & Sue's loyalty to the BBC. This'll obviously have a huge impact on the show so I just hope that Channel 4 can find the right replacement.
It's an interesting decision though given that she's just signed up to front another series of US Bake Off: https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2016/08/abc-great-american-baking-show/

She probably realised Val should have won and withdrew for having terrible opinions tbh.
here for the new BBC series starting next year featuring the old cast called "bake a bun" where amateur bakers are set a series of baking challenges :cheer2:

I can't believe how bake off has been treated it's one of the most popular programmes but without Mary and Mel and Sue it needs to be scrapped

It is a rather crazy situation. Its charm is with the fact its on the BBC and the fact it has Mary and the hosts and Paul?
Can you imagine all the tortured food commercials that will pack the breaks?

Well, this isn't good news. I'm still curious to know what the show will be like on Channel 4, but part of me wants it to stop after this series in case it turns out terribly.

This has been badly handled both sides. The production thinking of money more than quality, and the BBC letting go their biggest show. Doesn't sound like they negotiated much? 'We want one billion for another series' 'Nah bye bake off'
I can see it flopping on C4, then BBC snatching it back.

Bad decisions all round by production companies and it's all coming crashing down on Channel 4 (who tbf are just playing the game and they played it well).
