THE PRESENTERS

Davina McCall

Big Brother’s Big Sister, Davina is a firm fixture on Big Brother, having fronted all three previous series and the two celebrity editions. Her weekly address to the housemates, “Big Brother house, this is Davina” has become famous and impersonated, both in and out of the house.

Her dedication to and passion for the show shine through each year but they were most evident in the Big Brother of 2001, when she presented the entire series very heavily pregnant. This year she is expecting her second child so the viewing public will be able to watch the progress of her pregnancy throughout the summer.

Prior to Big Brother, Davina presented the dating show StreetMate for Channel 4.
She has also hosted a variety of TV award ceremonies, including the Brit Awards in 2000 and 2003, The British Fashion Awards 2000 and the Q Awards. The past year has been huge for Davina, with work on Popstars – The Rivals, Closure, The Vault, Celebrity StreetMate for Comic Relief and Reborn in the USA.

Every year she also plays an important role in Comic Relief, and in the past three years she has travelled to Kenya and Uganda to report on how the money raised each year is benefiting each country.

Dermot O’Leary

Dermot has hosted the daily fanzine show, Big Brother’s Little Brother, since its inception in 2001, keeping viewers up to date with the latest Big Brother news, views and gossip. This year, Big Brother’s Little Brother comes to Channel 4 first and is repeated every night on E4.

Long before Big Brother, Dermot started his presenting career on Channel 4’s hugely successful Sunday morning youth strand, T4. This gave him his first experience of live television, and when he left in 2001, he set up his own production company, Murfia, which boast TV credits such as Dermot’s Sporting Buddies (BBC3), a co-production with Chrysalis, which he also presented. His production company also co-produces the fast-paced live music show, Re:Covered with Blaze TV (BBC3), which is now in its second series. Dermot is also Associate Producer on both series.

Most recently, he has presented two series of SAS: Are You Tough Enough? from the wilds of Borneo. He has also dabbled in radio presenting, having hosted his own show on London’s radio station XFM.

Dermot has also hosted many live events, including Party in the Park, The Clothes Show Live, The Empire Film Awards, The British Independent Film Awards and the Heat Crusaid Auction.
Marcus Bentley
Marcus Bentley is the Big Brother narrator, but thought of by many as the voice of Big Brother. His familiar accent has made him famous throughout the country, but prior to Big Brother, Marcus trained as an actor and appeared in various theatre productions, TV programmes and films, including Mad Dogs and Englishmen, The Bill, The Harry Enfield Show, The Ralf Little Show, Have I Got News for You? and London’s Burning, and presented Dirty Money on Sky One. Marcus is a regular Channel 4 continuity presenter and narrator, and most recently became the voice of the BBC Proms.

Marcus has also been heard on many radio sketches for different stations, including Classic FM, BBC Five Live, Virgin and Capital FM, and his voice has promoted many products, ranging from Delia Smith to Bill and Ben, Auf Wiedersehen Pet to Men Behaving Badly.

Marcus was awarded an Edinburgh Festival Fringe First award for his theatre work.

THE PSYCHOLOGIST TEAM

In addition to a variety of guest experts, our regular experts return in an hour-long Sunday night programme, to give their scientific spin on what’s really going on in the house.

Peter Collett
A trained psychologist, Dr. Peter Collett is a former Oxford University Don, having taught and carried out research at Oxford for many years. His interests cover a broad range of topics; body language (including research published with Desmond Morris), culture, management style and personality. He is widely known for his innovative research on TV audiences, where tiny TV cameras are used to record what happens in people’s homes when the TV is switched on.

Peter is also known for his research on body language. He runs Collett Research, a consultancy that specialises in communication. His clients have included the Newspaper Publishers Association, BSkyB, Euromedia, FirstDirect, Zurich Bank, Crown Paints and many others.

Peter has authored countless articles in journals, newspapers and magazines and has appeared in various television documentaries, on News at Ten and Newsnight and of course, has been one of Big Brother’s resident psychologists since the first series. His latest book, “The Book of Tells: How to Read People’s Minds from their Action” will be published in May this year.

Geoffrey Beattie
Professor Geoffrey Beattie - one of Big Brother’s longest serving psychologists - specialises in non-verbal communication, particularly the communicative nature of hand gestures, and conversation analysis. He received his doctorate from Cambridge University’s Trinity College and has a Ph.D from Cambridge University. Among his many book publications is “Making Thoughts Visible: The New Psychology of Body Language”, which is based on his study of Big Brother contestants from the past three series and will be published this year. Other titles include "We Are the People: Journeys through the Heart of Protestant Ulster", which was runner-up for the Ewart-Biggs Literary Prize (1993); and "On the Ropes: Boxing as a Way of Life", which was short-listed for the (1996) William Hill Sports Book of the Year. His debut novel "The Corner Boys" was also short-listed for the Ewart-Biggs Literary Prize (1999). Geoffrey moved from the University of Sheffield to Manchester in 1994. He is Head of Department from 2000-2005.
As well as regular contributor to Big Brother, appearing in the past three series, Geoffrey’s recent television credits include Tomorrow's World, Richard & Judy and The Salon.

Sandra Scott
Dr. Sandra Scott was trained as a psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital in South London. Her work has included family therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and parent/child work. Sandra has also specialised in acute adult psychiatry with community and hospital-based duties and neuro-psychiatry. She is a trustee of ChildHope, a British charity established in 1990 dedicated to improving the lives and defending the rights of street children worldwide.

Sandra has contributed to a number of magazine articles and is currently preparing a book for publication with the working title ‘How Not to Be Perfect’ and has contributed to a book on the first series of ‘Confidence Lab’, entitled ‘Confidence in Just Seven Days’.

She has degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry, a BBS Degree in Medicine (The School of Medicine - St Barts) and is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Sandra’s television work includes Confidence Lab, which in turn led to working on both Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother series two and three. She worked on the Tomorrow’s World special Lab Rats, the groundbreaking Channel 4 documentary Boys Alone and, most recently, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Second Chance, also for C4.
