I've been suffering with a flu this week and was just wondering if it's happening to a lot more people during this change of seasons. Tell me I'm not alone. :joker:

Yeah I've had a really horrible cold/headache thing that's lasted for like a week and a half. It started out with a sore throat and headache, turned into a cold/cough and then for the past 3 days or so my ears have been blocked :worry: Today is the first day I've felt better since it began tbh.

Yes. Had it about a week or so but it’s on the way out now. Was horrible last weekend, couldn’t breathe, coughing, sneezing, head killing, shivering etc.

I’ve had it, my Mam, my sister and my Dad’s now got it and it’s gone into a chest infection so he’s on antibiotics, same with my Great Aunt.

BUT I’d rather have a cold than anything like a bad sickness bug so can’t complain much! :skull:

Ask for paracetamol tablets NOT capsules.
Capsules of any drug can stick in your throat and start dissolving there.
Another way is to chase them with a bite to eat like an apple, to make them go down

I have to agree with what was said earlier this page re. tablets >> capsules. Capsules definitely are more liable to get stuck in your throat and generally they just don’t go down as well.

I had a bit of something last week but I’m mostly over it now. Thanks to CBD, Ibuprofen and greens.

Yeah, I've had plenty times where I almost felt like I had a chemical burn in my throat from a capsule getting stuck there, it's horrendous.

The baby was very unsettled at bed time and then woke up at 11pm last night with a very uncomfortable stuffy nose, we're both having the same symptoms now. We always end up being sick at the same time which is exhausting.

It's hard because I'm constantly worried about him catching an illness because I know I'll catch it too. If I was well then it wouldn't be so hard to nurse him back to health. I hope it passes quickly too, we've only got about three weeks to prepare for a big first birthday bonanza! Covid definitely gave my immune system a knock, I had it when o was pregnant and I was bedridden for about two weeks, horrible illness.

Yeah I've had a really horrible cold/headache thing that's lasted for like a week and a half. It started out with a sore throat and headache, turned into a cold/cough and then for the past 3 days or so my ears have been blocked :worry: Today is the first day I've felt better since it began tbh.

Sounds more like covid

And when they are young they pick up some thing new weekly
Hope you have some one to give you a break even if it’s a couple of hours just to sleep

There are some nasty bugs going around country-wide. Me, wife and youngest were all very (very) ill for about 10 days over Christmas, tbh I'm still feeling slightly wiped from it nearly 3 weeks later, and my eldest was ill last week - dunno if it was unrelated or the same bug cycling round, she avoided it at Christmas somehow. Aches, pains, headaches and chills were big features - my wife suffered most with the chills, I was hit with the headaches and brain-fog.

But yeah there are a few flu strains and other viruses going around, health services were under quite a bit of strain in early January.

Indeed and remember "chin to chest" (pain in the back of the neck when trying to do this is a concern) and any light sensitivity - although that can also be just the plain ol' headache.

I agree with you that the MSM did blow Covid out of proportion, and wrongly scarred and scared a lot of people with how deadly the disease was meant to be.

And I also objected to the whole "you have to take the jab or you'll lose your job" dystopian scenario that a lot of countries were enacting (but thankfully have now stopped due to the backlash from most people.)

However, it was not a "cold for everyone" either, the truth is somewhere in the middle of the two extremes.

Last two colds I had significant breathing issues, but the symptoms were similar to that of hub's (just less severe with the breathing)... so I can see some of the bugs that have been going around mimicking COVID. FWIW, I've never tested positive for COVID but I don't get sick often. Anyway, I have an inhaler now because I have seasonal asthma now apparently  Maybe I'm just old...

Chemists sell £2 test kits now

If only. They're still inflated in price here but I think it's because people don't test unless they feel they have to, plus it's backed by our insurance usually, so the company can put any price on it for OTC (over the counter)...

What I meant by “telling me she had a cold” was that that’s what she thought it started off (at-least as far as she could tell) but eventually developed into something more severe, an infection of sorts (bordering on pneumonia). At that point, it became glaring that she desperately needed the antibiotics her GP was hesitant to prescribe her at-first.

I don’t think it’s always ever really been that easy to get antibiotics, really, tbh, but yeah. Appointment-scheduling being notoriously bad these days doesn’t help. But yeah. She’s on the mend now and she’s good.

My mum was telling me she had quite a persistent bad cold for weeks and weeks. She sounds a lot better now but it took a lot of persuading for her to get the antibiotics she should’ve been prescribed from the off. GPs can be like that. Gatekeeping resources more than they help.

A cold does not require antibiotics

A cold does not require antibiotics

It ended up being a bit more than a cold, though, Cherie. It was bordering on pneumonia at one point.

Yeah I've had a really horrible cold/headache thing that's lasted for like a week and a half. It started out with a sore throat and headache, turned into a cold/cough and then for the past 3 days or so my ears have been blocked :worry: Today is the first day I've felt better since it began tbh.

That's how I felt when I had covid, especially the ears thing.

You trend setter you.:fist:
