Axe the monarchy when Lizzy kicks the bucket tbh. Such a waste of money

Also MESS why isn't she paying for it herself! The government could spend that money on helping the thousands of people that rely on foodbanks. What a joke

The building will still need the maintenance, its a beautiful building, we cant just destroy it because we got rid of the monarchy.

That was my first thought as soon as I read about this earlier. Move the royals out to one of their (many) other homes for 5 years, open it up to the public to fund the renovations.

I can't honestly believe that's true, everytime I've been to the Palace it's been very busy and it's very tourist heavy wheras I went to Alton Towers not long ago when it was hot and it wasn't busy at all - it used to be but the accident has had a big effect, hence 70 odd jobs going

About 500k visit Buckingham palace a year. Alton towers gets around 2million according to google. And tbh I doubt people would stop visiting the palace just because the monarchy got axed

We already live in Austenland, Dickensian workfare/unpaid internships, draconian employment contracts, slum landlords, homelessness, high infant mortality, charity food distribution/soup kitchens, the sneering elite that delight at the suffering of the lower classes and a hand to mouth heat or eat existence for low paid workers ... how much more Victorian could we get?

Think how many homeless people could live in there

As it is her official residence rather than her owning it then I don't see a problem. All the big state visits make it worthwhile.
I am sure the Queen would much prefer to live in one of her own homes, but it goes with the job.

I think the feeling is why is it coming from the public purse rather than the queens generated income, in the economic climate and the uncertainty as to job security taking from public coffers seems a rather mean.
