Day 1 (Wednesday 1st December) - Krampus

http://static.wixstatic.com/media/8d26df_3de0a2edb1db4994b6ae1b39b5bc7be9.jpg

While the holiday season represents the most magical time of year, ancient European folklore warns of Krampus, a horned beast who punishes naughty children at Christmastime. When dysfunctional family squabbling causes young Max (Emjay Anthony) to lose his festive spirit, it unleashes the wrath of the fearsome demon. As Krampus lays siege to the Engel home, mom (Toni Collette), pop (Adam Scott), sister (Stefania LaVie Owen) and brother must band together to save one another from a monstrous fate.

Krampus

First things first, the cast is amazing. I was shocked to see such a cast for this sort of movie. When I first saw Krampus my expectations were high due to that, guessing the script was great.

After the fun opening of shoppers destroying a mall we get to know the family and then the extended family when the trashy sister arrives - this is probably when the movie finds it's pace, Aunt Dorothy in perticular is hilarious and you'll most likely feel pretty sorry for Max, a kid who still believes in Santa but loses faith after being made fun of.

I think the arrival of the Kampus is also strong, he's very menacing and creepy from the get go but his first victim was a bit of a waste imo, I wish we had gotten to see more of that person.

The house attacks by the various toys and Christmas food stuffs are fun but never felt menacing to me but they are pretty good creature designs I guess. I think the worst part is the ending. It felt very meh and I wish more had been explained.

Overall I would say it's a fun movie but it's got little rewatching value and it's not something I'll want to watch every Christmas from now on.

5/10

Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis ("Forrest Gump"; "Cast Away") reunite for "Polar Express," an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. Krampus - 7/10

I was really looking forward to this film and it didn't disappoint. A lot of familiar faces, a decent cast which worked quite well. I especially liked the grandmother and the aunt. It wasn't what I expected, I expected it to be darker although I'm really not that sure what I expected if I'm honest. The film progressed well and it felt Christmasy despite it being a horror film. The backstory with Krampus and the grandmother was a nice addition and I really liked the animation.

Krampus was quite scary looking and I imagined he would look like that, quite realistic I thought. The evil creatures lurking around the house were really creative and cool, the little gingerbread men made me laugh. The creatures made it quite comical and it was a nice touch to the film.

I felt it dropped in quality towards the end of the movie and I lost attention slightly. I didn't really understand the ending and I need to look it up in order to get it. Overall it was a good watch if if you want to see a scary Christmas film. By no means perfect but it was good.

Day 10 (Saturday 10th December) - Black Christmas

http://cinemassacre.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/black_christmas.jpg

As winter break begins, a group of sorority sisters, including Jess (Olivia Hussey) and the often inebriated Barb (Margot Kidder), begin to receive anonymous, lascivious phone calls. Initially, Barb eggs the caller on, but stops when he responds threateningly. Soon, Barb's friend Claire (Lynne Griffin) goes missing from the sorority house, and a local adolescent girl is murdered, leading the girls to suspect a serial killer is on the loose. But no one realizes just how near the culprit is.
