prep is to risky as they still get STD's
FACT
That's like saying the contraceptive is pill is 'risky' too. There's an odd stigma to people using prep, that they're likely to act more carelessly or sleep around more, and while that might be true for some people because some people just do that anyway, it doesn't make prep itself risky, and it's not true for most people. The point of it is to reduce the risk of catching an infection and spreading a disease that can kill people. If some people who are taking it create risks for themselves using the excuse that they're on prep, that doesn't make the treatment a risk, it's still just as beneficial for those who use it correctly (as well as society as a whole if it reduces the amount of HIV that's out there), it just means that some people are dumb.

There being more STD's on active fellas doesn't make that statement false :/ It was a comparison... "like", I was commenting on the principle of what you were saying.
It doesn't even matter anyway, I'm not saying STD's aren't a problem amongst gay men, it's a big problem, and there are people who'll use prep, have unprotected sex, and end up spreading other diseases, but like I said that's just stupidity on their part and they'll be doing that anyway - only with the added risk of spreading HIV, and maybe there will be a smaller minority who'll sleep around unprotected who otherwise wouldn't have without prep, but that doesn't mean it won't overall have a huge benefit, becasue a lot of gay men are actually quite sensible, y'know. And you can't limit their choices, take away their protections because of a small minority who might act recklessly.
Bottom line is HIV is on the increase and yes it's not as dangerous as it used to be but we still need to try and prevent it where possible, and the fact that some people are irresponsible isn't a good enough reason to reject the idea of protecting everyone else - (...just like how when the contraceptive pill was introduced, I'm sure some will have been against it because it might have meant that some women would have unprotected sex where they otherwise wouldn't have, and therefore spread STD's).

Infact even some medical

I suppose it depends then on whether or not you consider it a 'waste'. Cancer still exists but that's not a reason to not invest in treatments for other diseases (especially ones that are growing). I don't think there would be much of an impact on cancer treatment anyway though, the arguments against it seem like scaremongering to me, and the resistance to prep being invested in seem to be based on the 'gay men sleeping around' stereotype, and the homophobic undertones of "they're going to spread diseases regardless so why bother" (and the cherry picking of some (rare) examples of gay men who might be irresponsible and using them as a reason/implying they're representative of everyone else, shows that), so I don't hold much merit to those callers' views tbh.

Again though, it's a minority of gay men that will be irresponsible on prep, like I said it's unfair to punish everyone else for what some will do (and really that punishment extends to the whole of society since HIV is increasing, in London especially the rates are shocking and that puts everyone in danger, and I know you want to keep the conversation to gay men only but sexuality isn't as straight forward as that for a lot of people so straight men and women are also at an increased danger right now too - a gay man with HIV isn't necessarily only going to pass it on to another gay man). And people can act irresponsibly in all aspects of life but we don't limit treatments to the majority because of those people. And it really doesn't matter that some drinkers may forget to take the pill, again it's missing the point completely that for the people who don't forget to take it, and act responsibly, it will have huge benefits (as well as like I say, to society as a whole by reducing the amount of HIV that's out there).
I'm not going to pretend that it isn't a problem that some gay men are spreading STD's by 'advertising' unsafe sex, it is and it pisses me off to be quite honest when I see people on Grindr etc doing it, but it's something that's a completely separate issue, and it should be addressed, but not by limiting treatments for diseases for them (and especially when it's going to have an adverse impact on everyone else). Personally I think the best way to deal with that is through sex-education in schools being inclusive of gay sex & relationships but that's something for another thread
