As much as we love the highs and lows of the Seven Kingdoms, it seems the people of Ireland would prefer talk about the unfolding drama in the Celebrity Big Brother house than the wars happening between the houses on Game of Thrones, according to Twitter anyways.

The top ten trends on television in Ireland for 2016 have been revealed, and Celebrity Big Brother has ranked in at number 3, while Game of Thrones is one place behind at number 4, and the non-celebrity version of Big Brother UK came in at number 10.

The reality show just returned to Irish television in 2015, with TV3 gaining the rights to air the Channel 5 series. There has been two cycles of Celebrity Big Brother this year, with Geordie Shore's Scotty T winning in the winter and Ex on the Beach's Stephen Bear claiming victory over the summer.

Game of Thrones, meanwhile, is gaining more and more viewers with every season and aired here on Sky Atlantic from April until June. It may not have been able to surpass Big Brother on our shores, but it is the only TV series to feature on the Top 10 Global Trends on Twitter.

Proving the most popular on the box for the people of Ireland in 2016 was the Leaders Debate, which took place ahead of the general election earlier in the year. Good to see at least the future of the country was more important than Jeremy McConnell and Stephanie Davis's on/off romance 'ey?

Also featuring on the list was the Eurovision, The Late Late Show, Vincent Browne, the Rose of Tralee, Prime Time and X Factor.

I don't think that's true tbh, I just reckon people watch it on the British stations or online because the Irish channels are a bit behind on it

Tbf, CBB/(trashy)reality TV is more the kind of TV you tweet along with than a quality show like GOT.

Top trends on twitter, GOT only airs 10 episodes where is CBB has 4/5 weeks straight of episodes so obviously there would be more hashtags and talk about it on twitter.

CBB has like 60 episodes a year so is bound to generate more tweets than the rest.
