Haven't seen any of them  but looking forward to watching Elle, Moonlight, La La Land, Arrival, Manchester by the Sea and Lion.

Don't want to bother with Deadpool, the trailer was enough for me. Marvel's comic sensibilities sometimes are way off the mark and just irritating smugness.

Yeah, Deadpool is overrated trash.

The script is basically like a discarded pilot for a 90s sitcom.

I enjoyed it but I did find the sarky one liners a bit OTT, like practically every single line was one

Yeah, exactly. It tried too hard IMO.

Also I've never found Ryan Reynolds all that good an actor tbh.

Yeah he's not the most likable of actors, he's got kind of an arrogant air to him imo

Arrival bored the crap out of me, none of the characters were particularly compelling imo

I loved Edge of Seventeen

Arrogance and an overabundance of ridiculous one-liners is literally everything that Deadpool (the character) has always been about :joker:. Ryan Reynolds plays him perfectly. But then, he's not supposed to be entirely "likeable".

I like the film, I think it was a great achievement getting it made at all and also important for "superhero cinema" in general (proving that the older audience exists and is worth catering to). That said, I am slightly surprised that it's gotten awards nominations. "Best Actor" especially seems like a bit of a stretch...

Oh I get that it was all intentional. Just didn't find it as funny as it was intended.

I've watched all the major players bar Moonlight and La La Land. Will watch both and decide who deserves the Oscar or if Manchester By The Sea is better than both :idc:
