I dont understand the logistics of banning a group.. How would that be policed? Or is it just deleting their websites?

They belong on the list. Just for the sake of balance, however, it's the first time a far right organisation has been added to a list which is dominated almost exclusively by Islamic terror groups.

It's now illegal to belong to the group, attend meetings, wear a badge... etc... punishable by max 10 years. And quite right too.

Yeh, makes sense. I was confused about the line between a 'demonstration' and just ult-right wing friends existing together.. But I guess its more about the promotion of the organisation? Should have been done years ago, EDL & Britain First to come soon hopefully.

Not half as much as Muslims do - let's not be selective with the truth.

To be fair, whilst UKIP is an obvious stretch (although there's no doubt in my mind that there are some UKIP members who would LOVE to be able topenly express more extreme views...) ... The likes of Britain First have some quite blatant Neo-Nazi tendencies.
As always though I'm in two minds when it comes to restricting and banning. You can only restrict and ban people from actually letting OUT the bile that lives inside them... it's still there whether they're allowed to spout it or not, and as always I'd rather know who and what I'm dealing with rather than having to wonder what they're holding back. On the other hand, allowing these extreme views to be openly expressed is a big part of what allows them to spread to impressionable people who don't necessarily hold those views yet. I go back and forth.

You can't ban people from thinking whatever they like. But when that manifests itself into odious actions, like a celebration for the death of Jo Cox, something has to give. Mixed in with the few people who may agree with Far Right ideology are hundreds of thousands, millions even, of people who only want to take back control of our own borders instead of allowing an unelected body like the EU to dictate.

That's the danger though, isn't it? Extremists are few by definition (or they wouldn't be "extreme") and can do very little on their own... but when you have an extreme few having their numbers bolstered by millions of people who are simply frustrated... those extremists will hijack that loud voice and use it to further their own separate agenda.

Personally, for me, the Left is just as dangerous as the Right, and happily, I doubt the British will ever swing very far to the Right or the Left. I don't believe that's who we are.

These days I would tend to agree with the first part, though I'd apply it to even the "casual" right/left. People are so distracted with the pettier aspects of it all that we've almost completely lost sight of the real issues facing the world / humanity and that's always going to be dangerous. For example, what really bothers me about Trump isn't any of his political views... it's the fact that he can stand on a stage firing off line after line of what basically amounts to populist twitter trolling to a cheering crowd and no one thinks anything of it. This is the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Just... meaningless, petty squabbles and nonsense. But the entire US campaign was like that on both sides. Horrifying.
The second part I also agree with though not necessarily because I think British people are ideologically centrist... just that most are too disinterested / apathetic to put in the effort required in holding any extreme viewpoint. Centrist by default :joker:. The politics of "Meh, whatever!".

It's no joke, I don't believe UKIP are that far removed imo, maybe a little more subtle ...

She didnt say anything about racism though?
Not half as much as Muslims do - let's not be selective with the truth.
You should watch the Muslims Like Us programme on BBC2 last night. Only one in ten of them reacted negatively to a gay guy. A ratio that wouldnt strike me as dissimilar to the Christian or the British population, but certainly less than the right-wing group which prides itself on homophobia, to suggest Muslims would dislike gays twice as much as the now-banned group is completely mindless. I think the show would squash a few of the stereotypes you believe to be true to them all.

Moderate Muslims are far more tolerant that fundamentalists. Sadly, it's not the moderate Muslims we have a problem with. In fact, moderate Muslims are just as much of a target to Fundamentalists as we are.
I don't think there's anyone who thinks that Muslim = Terrorist, is there?
