I was just thinking I hadn't seen his well expressed posts for a while? I haven't been posting long but thought he was a great poster.

I Think he was frustrated at the often double standards on here regarding viewpoints and getting banned for expressing opinions that many share, whilst those expressing an opposing view in an insulting way usually weren't.. I hope he comes back.

No one gets banned for expressing an opinion they do though get banned for breaking forum rules, baits insults or aims to offend others etc.

And just to add, kirk was always one of the members that actually admitted that he was in the wrong the majority of the times he was infracted or banned.

I do hope he returns at some point in the future.

At risk of getting banned for disagreeing I see plenty of insults Directed at people who shared kirk's views but never see any of them getting banned.

Baiting for instance is very subjective often depending ' on which side of the fence you fall'.

All infractions are seen by all mods and admin and any that look questionable are always discussed.

In the case of you seeing insults aimed at others if you report them they are dealt with and bans completely depend on how many points so previous infractions a member has.

How many infractions do you get before you're banned and do expired ones ever contribute? Asking for a friend.

Expired ones don't count. It's not the infractions themselves that matter really, it's the number of points that each one is worth. It's 9 points for a one day ban and some infractions are worth one point, some 5

People used to know exactly how many points they had but now that information is known only to us :hee:

His thoughts on Big Brother were usually well-evaluated though.

Kirk is entitled to voice his opinions whether or not you agree. That is debate. Personally I find some of your opinions to be quite wacky... but I wouldn't stop you voicing them. Kirk is passionate about his opinions, so are you. The fact you disagree doesn't mean one of you is completely wrong and the other completely right. I feel like Kirk was hounded away. And he's not the first. The trick, as far as I can see, is this: learn to be insulting without actually breaking the rules; say something outrageous to someone then say you were only joking or post the little joker emoticon; always remember to make a point of quoting or addressing someone who's trying their best to ignore you... apparently that's not considered baiting, so do it until someone reacts, then you can hit the 'report' button and they'll get infracted. Also, if someone has a different opinion from you, they are obviously the devil incarnate.

Come back Kirk. We can't afford to lose another poster or this place will end up with the same bunch of people all agreeing with each other and posting the little "applause" emoticon after each other's posts.

There's fault on both "sides" though, some people on Kirks side were guilty of doing exactly what you're accusing the other "side" of doing. This is a forum, people are going to clash and when you're friends with a person or people, you lose the ability to look at the whole situation objectively. I really don't know what we as mods are expected to do other than try and enforce the rules when we see rule breaks, we're not baby sitters and we don't get paid to do this s**t and no matter what way we try to handle situations like these there's going to be people unhappy and complaining about how awful and biased we are

ETA : Stacey just proved my point btw (no offence to you Stacey) but you just did exactly what Livia accused the other side of doing but I'm sure it'll be fine because you're on the right side ;)

But people who are on Kirks side do that as well as those who are not is the point I was trying to make, in fact Kirk himself was notorious for doing it all the time, not that there's anything wrong with it, i do it myself on occasion if I agree with someones post, I just think it's a silly thing to beat one "side" for doing that when both sides do it but that's ignored

Absolutely right.

I did not often agree with Kirk but there were many times we did too.

If people are respectful and do not call others liars, stick to the points in hand and treat all other members as equals that would make time on here and I would guess the mods duties far easier.

I am one who does in fact proudly state that I have never used the applause symbol on here at all.
I prefer to say I agree and where necessary say why I do and vice versa as to disagreeing too.

It is a bit rich for anyone to condemn the use of the symbol as to others when as you rightly point out, it is deemed totally appreciated and acceptable if it is on their perceived 'right' side.

If we aren't allowed a Like feature then :clap1: does the job wonderfully

Like features are a nightmare on any forum... they inevitably end up being used for not-so-covert ganging up and very little else. I remember on my own forum (may she rest in peace) we had one for about 5 minutes. NOTHING but problems. Someone would post something a bit snippy and then a dozen tag-along-Tammys (the ones without the backbone to post anything confrontational for themselves) would "like" the post. Urgh. It should just be called the "Me Too Me Too!" function.

And the clapping emote should be changed to a little smug face chanting that.

I legitimately hate it. :clap1:. **** off. Say something for yourself or don't bother to post at all. People will argue that it's a simple way of saying "I agree!". No one cares that you agree! Quote the post and say something interesting as to why you agree, or just leave the post to stand on its own two feet ffs.

Maybe that's why your forum flopped? You only appreciate those that feel the need to go in depth on every post they make.

I'd hazard just as many who scroll past my posts also scroll past the insanely large ones some make to simply say they agree rather than just posting this gorgeous fella > :clap1:

Your accusations of posting simply to up the post count doesn't make much sense either considering the most active forum is one you don't even get an increase in your post count.

If people make "insanely large" posts just to say the same thing as the post they're quoting without elaborating at all, then yes, that's just as pointless (and even more of a waste of time) than mister clap-pants... ... ... :umm2: ... ... ... ... but yeah, my opinion :hee: would basically be if you have no intention of adding anything to a debate thread then don't bother whooping, cheering or clapping. It serves no purpose other than to "get at people". That's the honest truth of the matter. I'm sure it's great to have in Chat and Games. You could have whole threads of people just clapping back and forward. And high fiving. And playing soggy biscuit or whatever. We don't need it clogging up the proper forums

It's not Kirk's thread, Kirk has flounced off :hmph:. Abandoned us all. He never really cared about any of us in the first place. We just have to accept it Cherie. It's hard, I know, but we can move on... someone else will fill his confusing "sexy grandad" role... in time. Until then, we always have LT.

Not sure LT is ready to step into the sexy grandad role just yet, or will he ever fit the bill :umm2:

I don't think that's true, most of the time people do just want to express that they like somebody's post (without having anything specific to add to it), it's nice for the person who's post has been acknowledged and just adds to a 'community' sense I think a lot of the time, people clap in real life too  It doesn't have to be a post that's for everyone so scrolling past it is fine too obviously, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any value or there's anything wrong with it. Yes some people might sometimes use it for obnoxious reasons as well but I don't think everyone should be judged by that.

The thing is though, I rarely initiated any conversation with the guy, especially towards the end, because I actually found the debates we had quite boring. He'd retaliate to my posts (very occaisionally with insults) and get in a huppety when I reply.
Its difficult to talk about someone when theyre not here to defend their self... its unfair really, But I can tell you with certainty that he isnt the angel youd like him to be...
I rarely ever made or make threads in serious debates and news, but its just difficult for me to ignore borderline-xenophobia when I saw it on the homepage, and obviously I like to reply if somebody quotes me when i do post there.
his departure clearly made an impact on some users, but the only change for me personally, is the lesser relevance on the debates subforum, and I dont mind that much on a bb forum.
If kirk misses others as much as others miss him, im sure he'll come back.

Furthermore, I very rarely use emojis, and i rarely initiate debates by directly quoting somebody (usually just type my initial reaction to an OP and then come back if somebody quotes it) so I dont think your trick for no bans applies to me really.. I have never been banned (never actually had 3 infractions at the same time, I always assumed that it was a '3 strikes and youre out' rule until earlier on in the thread) Id like to think that I havent been banned because I wouldnt insult a member, despite getting a few insults thrown at myself, even here you called my opinions wacky.. Bit uncalled for.
I have agreed with all but one of my infractions and I understand the boundaries which kirk and the other banned members have crossed. Theres little use sulking. Kirk would probably still be here if he wasnt banned for rule-breaking in the first place.. But he did rule-break so he got banned, decided life was unfair and vowed to never come back.

He always seemed to throw his toys out of the pram and argue with the moderators like Dezzy for example, whenever he got infracted for breaking the rules and he never took any responsibility. It's like those people who think they can do/say what they like but get into a sulk when they're challenged over it.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but his leaving is just another example of that. Things not going his own way. He wasn't even banned. (I don't think).

See this just extremely petty and insulting but it's expected to be ignored because it's aimed at a mod yet had it been a mod aiming this at a member you would have been one of the first to quote it and shout about bias, abuse of power etc.

Its a bloody emoticon, it doesn't represent every instance of dickish pack mentality you've ever come across on the internet. Most people use it perfectly innocently and it's absurd to be so wound up about it.

(And I said most, not all before someone decides to list off whenever someone did use it to be a dick).

(It wasn't Dezzy who infracted me)

The post I quoted was Dezzy spreading lies about me, so after I had been infracted I decided to report Dezzy's post, guess what? it's still there and I assume nothing happened to Dezzy?

One rule for you mods, another for the rest of us.

So forgive me for thinking that you're talking rubbish.

No need to be rude and rubbish my post.

Actually I just had a look, since you brought up your infraction, you never posted politely alf you took the opportunity to have a dig, if you don't wish to debate with certain members then the adult way to go about it is to make use of the ignore option not quote the member that you say you don't want to debate with and post to them? That makes no sense tbh.

Having looked at the post you reported I don't find it to be offensive or insulting to you at all which is more than likely why it wasn't removed from the forum.

It's not true that I never do when it comes to mods there's been plenty occasions where I have overturned infractions and bans when I felt they were unfair and other mods have done too, we also have a discussion thread for every infraction that's given out and they are posted in a lot.

Of course you won't believe me if your minds already made up but it's the truth and plenty of members that have had infractions and bans overturned could confirm it.

Honestly for someone who says they didn't engage with him you seem to have a lot of issues with him, maybe best leave this thread to those who had no issues? Kirk threatened to put me on ignore on a few occasions, that said I don't have a bad word to say about him.

He regularly engaged with me.. And some of the times that he did, the posts were eventually deleted (noticed this trend with a few others too).. Your post suggested that you may have been unaware of this so I tried to help you out soz.

But kirk getting worked up and personal was all part of his charm :(

Some of his threads were pretty dodgy tbh.. I dont miss opening TiBB and seeing "Muslims do this terrible thing says Jihadwatch" on the front page.
His thoughts on Big Brother were usually well-evaluated though.

Oh well nvm

The sooner they're all eradicated the better :hee:

:clap1:

All the SD posters will be back once the temper tantrums have past

i miss the WAY he had to CAPITALISE every other WORD to ARGUE his POINT because that is HOW good DEBATES are won AFTER ALL

Legend of being himself

Good riddance, I guess.

apart from his constant infractions due to certain people reporting him 24/7

its a mystery to me why he wants to stay away

I probably wouldnt invest my time in a place that I regularly got infracted due to me breaking the rules either, maybe thats why.

I suppose that would be decided by the opinions and feelings of the mods (not the forum rules)

And if you couldn't work this post out, then let me help, this is a post of me trying to troll you.

I presumed he was asking for suggestions, otherwise he would have just been trolling about 8 forum members. But I think you knew that and you're just trying to troll me.

Dezzy argues with everyone who wants to control our borders, values the British way of life and/or criticises Muslim values, often infracting those whom he is in a disagreement with it seems, which is highly dubious practice in my opinion, so that is hardly any measure of the rights/wrongs of his infractions.
