I think Putin will have Trump for breakfast. Just because a man can make a lot of money in crooked practice in his own country doesn't mean he can succeed on the international stage, but as Trump is so arrogant and bombastic will he realise this? Plus Russia appears a very solid country under Putin whereas America is badly divided and maybe becoming ungovernable.

Obviously it was a political move, but it was a classy move.

Nothing sinister? It's a very thinly veiled threat, one that I don't imagine he'd carry out, obviously, but still a thinly veiled threat.

Russia are holding back because they see Trump as a green light to continue nefarious behavior. The growing list of people assuming Trump will be their useful idiot almost makes me feel sorry for him.
I've only got one message for Trump and that is: 'RUSSIA IS NOT YOUR FRIEND'.
The Obama administration seems to be going kamikaze in its last few weeks, it's a big difference from the calm and measured stance he's taken for most of his presidency. He needs to appreciate that he is now in his lame duck period where he should be focused on securing an orderly transition not inflaming tensions with Russia and taking pot shots at Israel

As far as I am aware Trnmp has not stated that he considers Russia 'his friend' but he did state that as President of the USA he would seek to improve relations with Russia? Is that not what he is doing?

Sad to say this was a killer move on Putins part, no need to enter into tit for tat, as Trump will rescind the order in the near future

This isn’t about making peace with Russia. Russia have been persistently testing the weak Obama administration for one reason only…. Russia is not Americas friend and never will be.
The only reason Putin didn’t retaliate is because America has direct evidence that Russian hackers effected the election in Trumps favour! Putin hasn’t even denied Russia committed espionage because he knows he can be proven guilty... nothing goes on in Russia without it being run past Putin. He’s salivating at the thought of wrapping the U.S idiot president around his little finger.
Come on BP, where have you been? Trump has bragged about his personal coolness with Vlad more than once. His SOS appointee and Vlad are total brothers.

I don't think anyone considers Russia America's friend but as long as everyone is aware of that and that thought is at the back of their minds (particularly Trump of course) when engaging with him it is not necessarily a bad thing. He is making an effort - the intention and results will become obvious with time.
I think is is early days and we all need to watch and wait to see what people do next. Maybe there is s bit more going on in Trumps head than many give him credit for, who knows, maybe he is even lulling Putin into a false sense of security in order to encourage him to show his true colours, but we have to give him a chance. He isn't even official yet.

Just as many Muslims are mocking Westerners for allowing them to come to their countries and support their rights despite this often being a totally one-way process.
Many must also be laughing their heads off about how easy we make it for them to come here and to commit terrorist acts against us. We are more concerned with their rights than our own.

I think Trump will be sweet and sour tbh.
He worries me slightly with his stance on nuclear weapons.
Saying he wants more weapons and that countries like Japan and SK shouldn't have to rely on the US for nuclear defence and should have their own.
I have said on here that i firmly disagree with unilateral disarmament for the UK however i also firmly believe in multilateral disarmament and for countries to aquire more is heading in the wrong direction. All nations should be taking steps to agree to reduce nuclear weapons until eventually next to non are armed and ready to go and maybe one day they will be almost non existent.Unfortunatley i think it will take a big scare for that to happen. The brink of a nuclear war.
Jimmy Carter finally loses his title.
