Two new songs out today, occupying #1 and #2 on iTunes, and most likely going to bore us to tears by the end of 2017, but hopefully they're good. *goes to find*

I love Ed Sheeran he's so talented.
Ed and Adele are the only people in the UK that just have that level of stardom that can reach a ridiculous level of sales within seconds of new material being released.
They really are the two names that will be throw about for the 2010s music period for history [UK wise].

I really like Shape Of You. I still think he's an overrated, generic bot who doesn't deserve his major success though.

He's not in control of the success though is he. The fans are.
The people who push his videos up into multi-million views on YouTube.
The people round the world who love his music.

Preach it
I'm shook at neither of them being acoustic ballads
I like Shape of You but haven't listened again since it'll still probably be in the Top 20 this time next year.

A positive to both of these is that they've ended the possibility of another number one week for Rockabye and it'll hopefully **** off out of the top 10 soon.

Not sure why people are crying about the charts. Ed has moved like 700k albums. He's going to be invading the chart. Independent artists are still charting high or topping charts regularly these days, so the opportunity is there for anyone nowadays. That was never the case before.
I always felt the factor of how much an album is being played by people should be signified too aside from just copies sold. I mean there wasn't all the outcry when the likes of Taylor Swift, Bieber or Beyoncé were having songs from albums all over the top 40. .

Because the singles didn't have the replayability factor of Ed's. Seriously, I've heard the album Non stop wherever I've gone this week.
...but if the entire album (not just a few singles, like the examples you gave)'s going to make it to the top of the singles chart then what's the point of an album chart?

The problem is though that it's only albums that are being streamed that'll see that impact, the article Smithy posted was really interesting and it pointed out that generally it's younger people streaming and older people buying, so artists that appeal more to older people might be being listened to over and over again but not seeing that impact their chart placings in the same way someone younger streaming a particular album over and over again will. It's a big generalisation but I think there's truth in it and it will mean the charts aren't fairly representative because of it.
I think there's always been a lot of different ways people listen to music but the whole point in the charts is to show sales... so including streaming makes no sense to me, 150 streams doesn't equal a sale, they're completely different things, I can't help think that the inclusion of it is just to pander to the radio 1 target audience to increase interest in the charts but it'll just end up (already has?) backfiring.

It's ridiculous. Today they had on MTV something like 5 song of him in one hour. I mean, it's not that his music his bad - but someone is clearly getting carried away. It reminds me of how mainstream music can be so antagonistic - not because of the music itself, but because of the overloaded conformism of the masses. :umm2:

He's a fad, he'll be remembered for his success more than his music.
I've gone from liking to disliking this about 3 times in the last 2 days. I dislike it. Shape of You is truly dull, and of the rest of the album, his rapping is cringeworthy, his ballads are unoriginal, his 'humble' attitudes in some of the tracks is embarrassing, and it's ****ing full to the brim of cliches. Where is the creativity here? I like a bit of originality with my albums. I also like artists who progress to a new vision with each album; there is no evolution with Ed at all.
