Seems Big Brother have banned any one from over 40 entering the bb house this year Here's (http://bigbrother.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds3508.html) the article

Quite right too. We are all far too dull. We would organise the place, cook nice wholesome meals based on lentils, get horribly drunk dance around the settee and strip.

You speak for yourself sunshine. I might not LOOK like Rachel Roberts......( oooh how I wish)....but I can be just as entertaining......so I 've been told

Last year here in Newcastle a night club at the new "Meet me at the Gate" complex refused admission to a couple, because they were too old and would not fit in with the younger clientel that they wanted.:mad:

Just because one is over a certain age, does not mean that one automatically behaves in ceratin ways.

I would prefer that, in all areas of life, we stop pigeon-holing people. Treat each 'case' on it's own merits. If someone is over 40 and they would fit in the house - then let them in....

I know I'm in a minority but Sandy was one of my favourite housemates last year.

And I don't see why they're rejecting over 40s because they won't get on with Jade types. They should reject the younger HMs instead.

Assuming this is all true of course. The source is the News of the World. They might just be trying to influence the final choice of housemates themselves.

I liked Sandy as well James, and I'm disgusted if the BB producers are now banning the older person from entering the house!

Look at Dean and Stuart, they were both in their late 30's and they fitted into the "slot" fine, so why should someone a couple of years older be treated like an OAP!

NOT ON PRODUCERS!!!!!!!!

What happens if they select a 39 year old who has a birthday while in the house. Do they get evicted!!!!!!:laugh:

I tend to agree with such a ban. The house needs vitality to be really entertaining. Older generations like myself try as they may do get stuck in their ways.

Age is all in the mind - after all look at Elizabeth she was 27 going on 50.:conf::conf:

Whereas I, and several others on this site, may be a little older, but we could still show the young folk a thing or two!!!!

:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

I shouldnt think they would get many applicants over 40 anyway - unless they were self-employed they would be unlikely to get 9 weeks off work unless they gave it up and most wouldnt be able to do that.

Just hope they dont restrict themselves to young 20 somethings though I think they need to have a range of ages so we can see how they interact.

where you watching the same programme? Dean although a nice guy was not the most interesting housemates and the "majority" of people did not like him. um hello - Stuart? I don't know anyone that liked him and he wasn't excatly the most popular in the house as well x

If you look at the older housemates they haven't tended to do so well x

The main target audience for the majority of television shows is 18 - 34 as these are the people who advertisers aim for therefore the people in the house will generally represent that age group x

xxxx

Plus Dean and Stuart where both under 40 x so they still would be allowed in anyway? x

I think its good to have all ages a good mixture:wavey::wavey::wavey:

Stu, I have to disagree. I thought Dean had a wonderful, dry wit. For example, don't you remember him chasing Brian round the lounge area with that orange segment in his mouth? The house wouldn't have been the same without him. He was a much needed father figure for the younger ones and my absolute favourite after Helen and Paul.

And, of course, he brought music to the house.:love::love::love::love:

BB2 and BB3 were the best it had a wide range of ranges, were do you get this idea that's it's 18-34 I'll be 39 in July and I'll still be watching it. The majority of this board are in there 30's. I don't get were your coming from on this one Stu age has nothing to do with being interesting look at Alex young and as fussy as they come. Put it this way if you never had people like Stu in it (1) you wouldn't have seen the row with Ama and (2) you wouldn't have seen Sandy climbing the roof or taking a leak in the bin, some of the highlights and lowlights of both the big brothers.

That's me firmly in the minority then! :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

I tend to agree with you, BusyBee - age can be very much all in the mind. But if you are the token 'oldie' in the BB house (as happened with Sandy) then it could be very difficult to integrate with all the other young 'uns. A fairer split of ages - maybe half between 18-30 and half 30 and above, might work better.

P.S. Hi, bananarama - great to hear from you again! :wavey:

I wouldnt mind the producers picked Sandy, then they try to say everyone over 40 is like him. Bloody Cheek. I'll end up boycotting the thing of they carry on like that. :conf: Sounds like they've all got there heads stuck up there nether regions, like last year, with the bars. :conf:

It surely depends on the housemate and they should go through the same selection process. I think an outright ban of anyone over 40 is wrong.

As for the show (and stated above most shows) being aimed at the 16 - 34 year old because of the advertising, who has the greater spending power someone of 16 or someone of 46? I'm over 40 does this mean I should not be watching BB?

Just because you are over 40 doesn't mean you are over the hill and they shouldn't tar us all with the same brush as Sandy.

Rant over!! I shall watch BB4 whether technically speaking I should do or not!!

Oh and I really enjoyed watching Dean on BB2!

I would love to see someone in their late 30s come in to the house and win! It would make BB4 different from the other shows.

This would be assuming that the ban on over 40s did exist. If it didn't then my comment still applies but with no age limit!

James

There was an article a while ago that said the producers were using Aussie BB2 as a model for BB4 here. If that is true it lends some weight to this story because the oldest they have there is 30.

I think it would be interesting to see what effect a few older housemates would have on the house. I remember reading that only a handful of over 50s apply also though.

And welcome back to ThisisBigBrother Bananarama.

Actually my earlier post was somewhat tongue in cheek you know!

I think I would make a good housemate. I can cook, (when I can be bothered) clean, know how to look after a smallholding, light fires, smooth tempers, facilitate reconciliations, hold my drink with the best of them, and the words (thanks to splodge) of several rugby songs.

I also know what the teabagtin is for!

If the target age group is 18 to 34 does that mean that anyone over that shouldnt be interested.

Well I'll just get my knitting out and put on my granny glasses, walk over to the tv with the aid of my walking stick switch on bb4 and spend the time criticising how the young ones can watch such trash.:hugesmile:

Or maybe I will sit there with a glass of wine or two, a few nibbles, a box of tissues and enjoy every minute.:thumbs:

At my work, the majority of the 18 - 34 year olds in my group don't even watch Big Brother or watch just odd snatches of it. Just like BusyBee, I have to put up with a fair bit of friendly teasing because of my addiction to it.

I think Big Brother and programmes like I'm a Celebrity, Survivor etc appeal to absolutely any age IF you like reality TV.

Anyway, we have a daily IACGMOOH discusssion and the new key words are 'Control' and 'Focus'. Thanks Fash

We are looking forward to BB4 - even if I am way over the age limit!!!!!!!!!!:xyxwave:

Well actually younger people have a more "disposable" income as they genrally do not have do spend their money on items such as rent, morgages, kids e.t.c x They are free to "waste" money on items that are enjoyable or higher quality life products x
This is why the majority of the media is aimed at that particular age range. Now i'm not saying that anyone out of that range can't watch it . It's just who it is aimed at. There are millions of people who watch Big brother and i can assure you that the majority of that audience is made up of 16 - 34 year olds. And they are going to want to attract more of this age range and one of the ideas that they have had to insure this is not to place over 40's into the house as the majority of the "younger" age groups are not interested in watching people that are not of their generation and who they can't relate to.
