I thought child tax credit + child benefit went to the main carer..whoever this is. Mother, father, aunt, grandparent, foster carer..whatever :S

Oh unless this is payments for childcare? In which case...I am not sure how I feel about that tbh. I wouldn't expect money for babysitting my grandkids

Sorry arista, cant listen to the link :p

I wouldn't expect money for looking after my grandkids, I don't think any proper Grandparent would.

But if it's an official thing, such as them caring for a child daily whilst the parent works before they reach school age then that's going to incur costs?

No that DJ said
there is only a few Grand Parents
getting this credit payment in one area.

Then he said its a hidden payment that they are not telling people about?

Some Grand Parents are Getting this Credit
and they then use it to take the Kids
to museums and things

It should be Front Page Vicky
but it was that DJ on before 4AM
talking about this Secret Credit

Grandparents are missing out on NI contributions towards their pensions.
If they are over retirement age it won't make any difference, if not then it helps towards building their state pension, very similar to the NI carers contribution.
They don't actually get cash.

Oh that makes a lot of sense, and is fair. Not surprising its not public though and its a hidden thing. Especially given 12bn worth of benefits go unclaimed every year. When I was younger I was really struggling for cash and actually asked in the jobcentre if I was entitled to any help, they told me flat out no as I was working. Ended up having to leave my job and move back in with parents.

So..I find out years later that I was actually entitled to both working tax credit and some help with my rent. Bastards. Yet they have the gall to bitch on about those who do manage to claim what they are entitled to?!
