I think it's probably time to stop the hysterical fear mongering over the new President, dubious as he may seem, and give the man a chance to see whether he can do a good job or not. Stranger things have happened.

How can he be blaming immigrants for America's problems when he is married to one? If the day ever comes when Trump rounds up millions of Muslim Americans or drops a nuke on Iran, then I think the comparison will be fair. Until then this comparison is silly.

Wouldn't say he's as bad as Hitler, but I find it disturbing that anyone would vote/support someone who is racist, a liar, makes up conspiracy theories, doesn't belive in climate change, and admitted sexual assault. Each to their own tho I suppose

Actually Adam,.you have raised fair points there.
The rhetoric of both is in some ways alarmingly similar.

So what are you saying then? That there are other factors he's placing blame on as well as immigrants, or that he's not placing blame on immigrants at all?

Trump is more similar to Hitler than most modern world leaders, I'm sure nobody in the thread would suggest otherwise.. The picture implies that they're on similar levels though.. When Hitler has done all those things listed to a much higher (almost incomparable) degree

The similarities are definitely there but thankfully Trump is neither as intelligent or as capable of charming the masses to his way of thinking as Hitler was.

I don't think there is anything childish at all in the OP.
Adam has presented a comparison that shows 2 leaders who won power and who are united in what appears to be divisive and confrontational rhetoric.
It alarms me that the USA could elect this apparent loose cannon,I hope parts of the World and some nationalities of the World don't suffer as a result..
However I have strong doubts as to that.

There's one major difference between them though, and that's Hitler was loved by the majority of his people at the time who was for alot of those radical thoughts from Hitler, where as Trump didn't even get the vote of the people but instead a rigged system in their favour as small rural States in America always go for Republican.
My point being that the people will not accept those ideas from Trump.

They have the same number of eyes, don't forget. That comparison is just about as valid as the rest of the "comparisons".
There was an explosion of indignation on here when I used the term "red Nazis" to describe some old school Labourites, a term that had been used widely in the press. Those same people think this is a fair comparison though.

Adam made this thread only pointing out similarities of style and rhetoric.
Which a fair few have overall agreed with, myself included and I do think raised a valid issue as to these 2 men coming to near absolute power.
Since you raise it, your red nazi comment was directed at a whole body of people on a particular side of politics you have no time for.
This is merely a thread highlighting the similarities of divisiveness and confrontational style of just these 2 men as seen by threadmaker and his OP.
He is not saying all Republicans or those who vote for him are tarred with the same brush.

Good point too.
It's the rhetoric that seems to have some alarming similarities.
The Nationalistic divisive uncompromising tone of same.
The World is always a fragile place but I fear Trump's antagonistic style is likely to bring things down even more.
I'd love to be proven wrong however and see his power curbed strongly from the USA governing bodies.

thats because the world is a teensy wee bit more than your recollections
“Barry Goldwater’s Rise is Compared to Rise of Hitler,” announced Jet magazine on July 30, 1964.
Richard Nixon was often compared to Hitler by his Democratic rival George McGovern. And then it’s been passed down to Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. It’s become a trend among Republican presidents, to have the Democratic challengers compare them to the fascist leader.
“This happens every time a major Republican comes on the scene,” said Joe Scarborough, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, when discussing the NYT piece.

Lol at the total hypocrisy on this thread. With regard to your last sentence what is the difference between those on the right being called bigots and racists by many on here but if someone makes a passing comment about those on the left that they find offensive there is an apparent meltdown.
Talk about dishing it out but not being able to take it.. Not you personally but I don' see you being so shocked or complaining about that.

Actually I do complain about it.
I have never ever supported any calling of the right racists.
Also too particularly when Nigel Farage and indeed others in UKIP are called racist I dispute that too and always have during my over 6 years on here.
Which I think most on here know that too.
So perhaps try to make sure if possible your facts are right before you nitpick at people.

As much as I dislike Trump, I think it's somewhat populist and OTT comparison. Leave it alone and be more matter of fact - blame him for the things he does, not for the things you would like to scare others. Sometimes it's pure demonising for nothing, getting carried away way too far.

Well, this has been my argument all along... as on the thread regarding the lecturer, anyone particularly young people who voice a concern these days are immediately slapped down with these labels.
Any query made by anyone questioning anything from anyone in a position of 'authority' is mocked, regardless of how valid or fact based it may be.
The replies are becoming less and less explanatory (people are sick of experts) and more and more aggressive (attacks on whistleblowers)
These derogatory labels are nothing but a smokescreen.

Not you personally, or in the literal sense ... obv, just that I will be highlighting it as I have in this thread for instance.
I'm not aware of any double standard from myself, you will be sure to remind me if I have I'll be happy to clarify.
My response to you though not directed to me personally was pertinent to the discussion, I felt it warranted.
This is the debates section, unless you use the ignore function you cannot control who responds to your comments.
I don't want an argument either I want a fair and reasoned debate, If yourself or anyone appear to be establishing a benchmark for others that they themselves can't meet then I'm in my rights to voice that as a concern.
