This is the latest big issue across the health service and also a government priority! However I have to say it's only because they are failing so awfully to provide appropriate care to those who are nearing the end of their life. I do wonder if it is a knee jerk solution they are looking for rather than a long term plan of caring for people who are dying?

How do you think that care should be provided to those who are dying?

Do you think that the care sector could be doing more?

From personal experience, I think that quite a lot is done to offer support to patients and families who are in this situation. However, I still think there is more that can be done to better this. Unfortunately the health service is over stretched. I do think however that sometimes the elderly are overlooked, who have no family, and therefore noone who is with them to make sure they are as comfortable as possible towards the end of their life.

I totally agree with you there. The elderly are often lost in the system and not afforded the same level of care as those who have family to ensure everything is done for them.

I am currently doing a piece of research around palliative care with a view to writing knowledge standards for those working in the care sector (care homes, independent living etc) to ensure that people are afforded the same level of care across the board

That sounds like a worth while thing to do. You will have to let us know your findings.

it will be published along with the other knowledge sets ( standards to allow organisations to develop their own training packages with guidance) I am responsible for, on my organisations website which I will happily U2U to you the link when it is there!
