Now that CBB19 is over, I thought I'd do a poll to compare with last year's January series. Which one did you prefer?

19, but there's not much in it
17 remains my favourite ever but I've enjoyed 19 also!

17 by far for me, that cast was everything.

17, it ended marginally better
CBB19 has suffered from the BB17 Effect, in that had that a good housemate won (Jedward, Kim, Nicola), I'd have probably put it above 13, 15 and 17 (which were all stellar January series), whereas now it's probably below all of them. That might change slightly with hindsight, but I doubt by much
Epic.

I tend to judge seasons by cast, so 17

Hmm interesting. I'll say CBB17.
Had Kim/Jedward not been on the show this series, it wouldn't even compute, but i rate it quite highly this series now.

You consider a Scotty/Steph/Darren final three better than a Coleen/Jedward/Kim one?

The 'end' is when someone is announced the winner. Scotty is a marginally better winner than Coleen, so

How? Scotty did NOTHING. Coleen at least ended up 'completing her arc' by standing up to the villain of the house (even if it was a pathetic attempt).
(I'm not going to say that's how she won or anything because the casual viewers don't vote based on story and if they did we'd have had a Jedward/Kim/Nicola final 3 but you take what you can get)

Scotty did at least have a storyline with Megan and some amusing moments thanks to Tiffany, Coleen made me laugh twice in the first week, then smoked her way through the series before reappearing in a task the night before the final only speaking because a far superior housemate decided to have a go at her
She stood up to no one, in fact she didn't stand up at all cause she was sat down that ****ing long, the boring bitch

I'm not a big fan of Coleen at all and I'd much rather Kim/Jedward won but I don't really get why the final half hour suddenly 'makes' or 'breaks' a series when it doesn't change the previous 31 days at all. Like I love BB6 and CBB13 but both had underwhelming winners (imo) and whilst it leaves a bad aftertaste, it still doesn't change how entertaining the prior weeks were, which is what made those series what they were in the first place.
Epic.

Scotty T has more likeability than Coleen as a human being. Coleen is a horrible person who bitched about people daily and delivers the massive dissapointment in this reputation she makes for herself as this balls-to-the-wall confrontational woman who stands against those who discomfort her. And she ended up doing the EXACT same in CBB10 but WORSE. For example, Spencer bothered her in her bed and rather than bringing it up to him, she just takes it that night and bitches about him in the smoking area to James C as per usual. It's abhorrent character traits, worsened by her acting as if she's capable of going against people on the merit of some kind of martyr. The problem is her worry of what the public think of her subconsciously affects how she confronts people. She's just afraid to confront anyone because of how she'll be perceived.
Ignoring the fact I actually sort of like Scotty T and was indifferent on his win, he NEVER tried to make himself out to be something else. He's just some cheeky flirty guy with some nice manners in the house. He handled the Megan/Tiffany thing with grace and his uber hatred of Stephanie was much funnier than Coleen's pathetic scummy leeching on people she didn't like while smoking a fag. I knew he'd win from the start and was probably my 2nd or 3rd preferred winner in the final anyway. Plus answer this question; did Scotty T ever try to make you expect anything special about him?

It doesn't change the weeks that preceded it, no, but it can certainly tarnish and diminish the legacy of a series - and when it comes to ranking them it's one of the biggest factors for me in separating them.
Here's a post I made to Marsh on the subject recently:
I put a lot of weight on the winners of reality shows, I wish I didn't but I do. I feel like I've wasted weeks/months of my life investing in a show if some ****ing irrelevance only goes and wins it  in much the same way that someone may feel cheated if the last ever episode of a drama they enjoy doesn't end the way they like, it works exactly the same. Yes in part it's about the 'journey', but I still think the winner can to an extent make or break a series
The BB6 example isn't as useful because Anthony actually was a fairly big part of the series, if a MOTR housemate wins (i.e. Pete, Brian B, Jason [edit: Scotty T!]) I'll be disappointed but I can deal with it, whereas if someone like Sam Evans wins, my thoughts on the series take a huge tumble. I'd easily put BB15 above BB14 for example, whereas if Dexter or Gina had won it might not be so clear cut

CBB19 was slightly better as there was never a dull episode - CBB17 had the Stephanie and Jeremy week which was diabolical.
