The UK has a lot of things going for it, there's no doubt about that, but one thing it doesn't have is a theme park to rival the likes of Disneyland...
Until now. Or, technically, at least until 2021.
Yep, your childhood dreams are set to come true as Paramount is gearing up to open the Paramount London Entertainment Resort, which pretty much looks like Disneyland but British.
The park, which will be the first of its kind in the UK, will be packed with rides and attractions for children and families, as well as indoor and open-air entertainment events, all in "themed zones".
Paramount Pictures has teamed up with the likes of the BBC and Aardman Animations in the hope of creating stage shows and live acts, so you could soon be rubbing shoulders with The Doctor and the Daleks, Wallace and Gromit and delving into the worlds of Star Trek, Indiana Jones and Transformers.
Exciting stuff, we know.
London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), the firm in charge of the project, plans to bring the entertainment resort to the Swanscombe peninsula in north Kent.
Humphrey Percy, CEO of the venture's parent company Kuwaiti European Holdings, said of the plans (via the Daily Mail): "We're working with world-class theme park design companies to make sure that we have a real attraction.
"I'm talking about companies that have their headquarters in California and support the major film studios and attractions across the world."
Adding that the park will be an "amazing and exciting" attraction, Humphrey promised: "We will make sure that this experience is for the whole family."

Earlier than that. I'd heard of a 'Wallace & Gromit' theme park for absolute years.

It will be good if it gets the go ahead. It's been pushed back so many times already.

I remember Top Gear was supposed to be a major part of this too, no doubt that's fallen off a bit now.
I'd actually be worried by 2021 Doctor Who will have lost a bit of it's relevance, they seem to have issue with the fact outside of DW and Wallace & Gromit perhaps, none of the IPs they'd be working with are timeless enough to sustain a theme park.

If they're comparing it to Disney they're gonna fall short anyway. Universal parks aside, nothing compares in terms of a 'theme' park.

"Where should we go next summer kids? Disneyland?"
"Noooo, dad. I want to go to the Paramount London Entertainment Resort."

This.
The location itself adds to the whole thing.
Can't see many foreigners thinking of rainy Blighty in the same frame of mind as somewhere like Florida or Paris.

I'm very surprised Harry Potter hasn't been mentioned.
Still huge and popular globally and they have nothing in the series' home country to compare with the Wizarding World thing they've built in America.

Universal hold the rights to Harry Potter in terms of theme parks.

Doubt WB would go for it to be honest.

They have a resort/theme park that's part of Universal in Spain I believe. It's doubtful universal would build so close to that. That's why Disney would never build here. Plus why build a Disney park in a country where millions of people will travel 4000 miles without hesitation to visit a Disney park.
