View Full Version : X Factor to have 2 weeks of live shows as it follow BGT's footsteps

X FACTOR bosses want to give the show a Britain’s Got Talent-style makeover — with a week of live episodes before the final.
Top bosses, including executive producer Mark Sidaway, fear TV audiences have grown bored with weeks and weeks of live shows.
So they are planning to take a leaf out of their sister show’s book and air seven heats leading up to a finale in one bumper week.
An insider said: “The X Factor executives feel it needs a shake-up with big changes to the format.
“They have been discussing having just a few weeks of live shows — so people get to know the singers — and then one big finals week.
“They think viewers would prefer one week of great TV, with star performers.
“BGT is a huge success, so they could take inspiration from worse places.”
Last year’s series of the ITV talent show saw Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger return to the panel alongside Simon Cowell.
And the insider added: “If the live shows were focused on one week it would be easier to fit into schedules for the judges.
"But the move wouldn't affect the total number of hours of the series."
An X Factor spokesperson said: “No decisions have been made about the new series.
"Discussions are ongoing and details will be announced in due course.”
This year’s BGT returns in April while X Factor will kick off in the autumn.
Last year's series of the hit show attracted an average of 7.7million viewers.

So instead of having a week to rehearse the new performances, they'd have 24 hours? I can see that going well.
That said, I'd actually be interested in seeing this tried out. Not that it will happen, don't think it will for a second.
Will.

Perhaps this is another reason why BGT is airing late, because XF will air later in the year due to less shows.

They use to make the people on the friday episode of BGT perform a new routine the next day until they made the final a week later for a more lever playing field

Please God no, the best part of X Factor are the live shows and getting to know the acts over the course of ten weeks, it was bad enough when they reduced it to seven (and it's appalling enough with 3/5 on The Voice), keep it as it is thanks
I wouldn't mind them airing the auditions all in one week though tbh

The best thing they can do is to axe it. This, or stop treating it like it's as big and relevant as it was before.

I genuinely wouldn't watch. I can't abide BGT and if they're turning into a similar format then no thanks.
Mind you I think this is just an empty rumour, I really can't see this being genuine and going ahead.

Isn't BGT just airing later because of the Voice

There's no confirmed date yet, but we do know the normal start date has been pushed back.
Over the last nine years, the show has tended to start in April, about two weeks in.
But thanks to The Voice moving to ITV, this year's BGT has been pushed back to a May start date.

OK magazine is not a reliable source though.
There is no need to air it in May and have nothing to air for 3-4 weekends of April

Terrible idea. Doesn't give the contestants enough time to let people know them properly or to build any type of fanbase. The show is generally a mess now though.

As much as I love the 10 weeks of live shows, I can understand why they would want to do this. The format has been so stale over the last few years, and last year's ratings were really poor. This sounds interesting, and could work.

But the BGT week of live shows whittles like 50 contestants down to 10 then the winner at the weekend.
The X Factor final week wouldn't have eliminations throughout the week would it? So what would be the point?

No I haven't watched a series since 2013, but I have been watching the knockouts just cos it's the only stage I like. The decisions have been mainly crap though.

Oh yeah same, I haven't watched since 2013/14. There's been lots of news about who got though this year, so I thought something must have been up in terms of the decisions.

I think this would actually kill the show off it works well on bgt because it's a variety show so you get something different every night but with X factor people aren't going to tune in 5 days in a row to watch singing every night

I think that The X Factor live shows should always be between 7 to 10 live shows as it just suits the show more.
BGT's format works as it is, but leave The X Factor alone on that front, the main thing that needs to be fixed for TXF is more interesting winners, I mean series 10-13 have had some of the dullest winners in their lineups take the crown, that's a ratings killer.
