Thoughts on this? The Police woman is getting an awful lot of hate on FB but I have to say I hate when people pick the daffodils that are planted by the roads and in public places. They look so lovely there. I would be one of them parents who told my kids not to pick them when they were younger

A father has filmed the moment he confronted a police officer after she confiscated daffodils from his daughters.
Rosemary, ten, and Emily, five, had picked the 27 flowers to give to their gran and mum on Mother’s Day, however, were told they were breaking the law.

Their dad, David Taylor, 31, decided to film the incident after he became incensed with the way the situation was dealt with.
He can be heard protesting in the video that the flowers were taken from public land but the officer claims he had ‘committed a criminal offence’.
The carpenter was on the way to visit his mother when his daughters picked the daffodils from the verge near Berryhill Park in Mansfield.

Its technically stealing, no matter the reason for picking them.

Imagine if everyone picked the spring flowers planted in public parks and on public land. The dad is either stupid or knows full well it was theft. I do feel sorry for the kids though, its not their fault.

Fairly obvious that dad didn't want to spend a pound down the petrol station and told the girls to pick the daffs. The children probably didn't realise but at the end of the day people have to learn that just because something is growing there doesn't mean you are entitled to pick it.

Yeah exactly, when they asked if they could pick them he should have said no, they're to make the roads look nice, lets go buy some instead or whatever

It was over the top imo,no need for the police woman to confiscate them, just explain to the girls why it's 'illegal' apparently and let it go,those flowers will now probably just be binned.

On Ch5HD Live AM debate they said the the copper
should have got the children to take them
to that place.

That's petty ,why just not let the girls keep them, and explain why they shouldn't have taken them ? They were not trashing them ,they picked them for their mom and gran . No more daisy chains next.

Daisys are weeds though, those flowers are planted especially to make places look better, people volunteer to do it in their spare time alot of times to make their communities nicer, they're not for picking and the dad I'm sure was well aware of that. It's a pet peeve of mine, especially people who pick them and then try to sell them :fist:

To teach them consequences I suppose. I haven't seen the video so I don't know how the kids reacted to it but it'd probably be a good lesson for them in the future, having more respect for public places and parks etc.

There's no such thing as "public land" sadly, but anyway, I agree that these flowers are planted to make the area look nicer, not to be picked, if everyone did it they wouldn't last very long . The village I live in, being a little posho sort of place, actually has various places where there are potted plants (in half barrels) and if people started taking those for themselves it would cost a fortune...

On the other hand, they were already picked, so they could probably have explained why not to do it more gently and let them keep them this time .

We have several grass verges that have daffodils planted ,I appreciate how lovely they look and the father should have known better , I just think it was a tad heavy handed . I used to pick flowers all the time when I was a kid, and sold them to some old dears , lol.

True story that

We didn't have phones, games consoles or Sky TV in them days, we had to make our own entertainment.

We did that too
edited to add: we didn't use pickled onion jars, we used old medicine bottles so we got more for our money!

Whoever bought and planted the flowers are surely the only ones who should be making the decision wether its stealing or not. Not this stupid police woman.

Ridiculous over zealous policing and a complete waste of public money.

Like the dad says, go and catch some real criminals.

A little lass picked some daffs from my garden and I asked her if she thought it was right to take something that wasn't hers. She admitted it was wrong, but she had no money and wanted to give the flowers to her mum. I let her keep the ones she'd picked, but told her next time to come and ask me. Children have to know right from wrong and if the parents aren't going to tell them, someone else has to.
