View Full Version : Ignoring your boss
SO BASICALLY I wasn't scheduled to work tonight but my boss text me and asked me if I could work but I really don't want to and now she's ringing me but I'm ignoring her calls so what would you do?
Can you ignore your boss?http://cdn.thisisbigbrother.com/customavatars/avatar91218_177.gif
Ignore her and then when you see her tell her your phone was in getting repaired if she mentions it.
Ive just had 3 full days of arguing with one of my bosses before they finally caved in and authorised the holidays I wanted.
Bosses are such ***** at times tbh

I will be the angel on your shoulder, don't ignore her as she will be more likely to treat you well if you respond, just say its too short notice or you have a family birthday or something that you can't get out of. Not being able to get in touch with you will probably piss her off and if you want a favour in the future she will remember this...I would.:hee:
disclaimer ...I am not saying Josy isn't treating her boss well :hehe:

I probably would have replied to the text and said that I couldn't because I had already made plans for my day off

In other news I have just had a call from my school to say it is closed until after the Easter holidays due to the norovirus, too many staff off...so no work for me tomorrow or Friday..:amazed: I had swopped my days as well so someone worked my Monday and I was doing their day tomorrow..

They treat me well when I'm not asking for holidays, tbh its because they know I do most of the work so when I take time off they panic :hee:
I'm going to just go in on my next day (Sunday) and tell her I cracked my phone screen so it's been in repair!

You'd be better off just telling her you can't because you have plans because I've been in her position and it's always easy to tell when someone's ignoring your calls and it's very annoying. It's much better respond and say no then it is to leave someone pissing in the wind.

Exactly, It drives me crazy when people don't reply to a question or ignore calls. She's so going to know you're lying about your phone too Cal

Yeah I agree with this. I don't think there's anything wrong with ignoring her, if you don't do a job where you have to be contactable outside of hours then it's perfectly reasonable to ignore her and technically she can't have a problem with that or do anything about it, but like Cherie said it could benefit you to respond because she'd probably think better of you for it so it might be better for your relationship.
Her baby is really ill it turns out and needs to go to the out of hours doctors tonight so I've had a change of opinion and decided to go in!

I just had a mini row with one of my colleagues too cos she was right short with me on the phone stupid bitch!

Could backfire as well if you keep ignoring her, she may stop asking and there might come a time when you need the over time

I'm kidding around, what work do you do Cal?
I knew you were! :p
Chef's Assistant at a pub really so I'm just a skivvy, washing plates, loading dish washer, serving food, dealing with customers etc. My boss kind of runs the kitchen but she's not the chef so on the days she has off they have the kitchen assistant's in!
I'm really bad at dealing with people people always ask me for sauce or something and I just disappear into the kitchen and don't remember until like 10 mins later :worry:

Ignore her, it's up to you if you want to work or not. If she asks just say you were not in a position to answer at the time, although it really is none of her business. A good excuse also would be 'I was driving, my phone was in the glove box' :)

Yeah I would ignore it! But if her baby is ill then I guess it's good to go in if you can.
Mine said he likes to work on a 2 weeks basis but like he messaged me with like 1 day notice and I haven't worked for 8 weeks.
So I'm saying no unless I get a weeks advance notice because it's taking the piss considering he hasn't asked me for 8 weeks. He asked me Mothers Day Sunday with barely any notice, working till like 10PM+ but I said no because of college early next morning.
Honestly don't know why I get a days notice, clearly just an extra for when someone can't work.

if you are on bank staff or zero hours that is how it works I am afraid, I used to temp for an agency and I would be called at 9am to get in as soon as I could I used to hate it, I often made up an excuse like the time I had my bag snatched, or that my great uncle had passed away then went back to bed. I didn't mind if I knew at least the evening before so I could be prepared and not hungover :hee:

I don't know why you would all ignore it though, its costs nothing to be polite and its not like they can force you to work, just answer and say no, better than having it hanging over you next time you go in and they ask why you didn't answer your phone :nono:

I don't think I'm on that, like it was meant to be a part time job every Saturday but like it's becoming something else.
I don't really know if I actually have a job because like he didn't ask for me 8 weeks, well he asked me this Sunday.
There's always a kitchen assistance, so he's just choosing not to have me. And he said we work on a two week basis, so let me know in advance if you're are unavailable certain weekends.
So like clearly not wanted there.
Yeah lol.

Whatever it is you should have a contract stating what your hours are, you shouldn't have to put up with that..
My friends son went for an all day trial at the gadget shop 9 to 5 which his Mum wasn't happy about as he wasn't being paid and they didn't provide lunch or travel costs but he was desperate for a part time job... then they called him and said he had done very well but they felt he could do with another days trial at a different shop ..all unpaid ..:umm2: he didn't go

Omg that awful, feel really sorry for him.
I had to do the same, I got 1 hour notice and worked in the evening as like a tester. And then they took like 2 weeks to reply. But I know I haven't really got a job, basically they want me when there desperate. I think I'm gonna say I have another job now because I don't like spending each week wondering if I can do something on the weekend. I've spent the last weeks planning nothing for the weekend and not worked once. :umm2:
I was wanting to go to my dads this weekend and i might since i've heard nothing.

I work with an agency, and if they're ever inconvenient with me I just ignore their calls and then ring them back a bit later (when they've filled a shift) and say sorry I missed your call because I was out lol
But it's very rare for me to do so. I'm not work shy :hee:

I don't answer calls from work on my days off. They know i'm not doing overtime at the moment and that's it. I might do it when i sorted out my kidney issues. At the moment i don't feel well enough to do it.
Find it strange that so many see their boss as an enemy, if they're calling you on your day off its going to be their last resort the vast majority of the time and they'd obviously rather not ask you but needs must sometimes when you're running a business. Maybe my situation is rare but I get on great with my boss :hee:
i ignore my boss daily, he texted me 4 times one night because it was my first shift back and i forgot to do one thing lol as if the world's going to end if something isn't put on a shelf

answer the phone while you are talking with a friend and let them hear how you love your boss as they are always considerate to when you want time off and that makes you work harder.
then hang up.
plant the seed. :cheer2:
