'At least 10 dead' after blast on subway in Russia

An explosion in the St Petersburg metro system has killed at least 10 people and injured 20 more, local media reports.

There were blasts in two metro carriages at two stations, St Petersburg emergency services said.

A Reuters witness saw eight ambulances near the Sennaya Ploshchad metro station.

The blast involved a device filled with shrapnel, Interfax cited a source as saying.

The Life News website, a news outlet with close ties to Russia's security services, showed pictures of blown-out train doors and injured people on the station platform.
Russian news agencies quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed of the explosion.

Mr Putin was visiting the city and is expected to hold talks with the Belarusian president later in the day.

Three metro stations have been closed, local media outlet Fontanka reported.

No, I replied after having seen the thread the first time. It is disgusting to assume a terrorist attack has been done to sweep another horrible event under the rug.

My interpretation is that within minutes of an attack that has left ten innocent people dead and many injured you have already decided to declare it a conspiracy, speculation that is not particularly sensitive or appropriate at this stage imo

the russian people know who there enemies are, and there unity is more real than what we have here in the west, because we know who are enemies are, but we tip-toe over the problem, and what makes it worse is that we make excuses for these people who do these things, in russia not one person will make an excuse for what these guys do, but here in the west, we are lost in a pacifist dream, but the russian bear is awake to face the enemy.
