An Indian news anchor learnt the tragic news that her husband had died in a road accident while broadcasting live on air.

Supreet Kaur was reporting on an accident in Pithora live from the IBC24 news channel studio on Saturday (April 8), revealing that three people had died and two were injured after a collision.

As more details came in from a reporter over a phone line, however, it became apparent to the anchor that her husband could have been one of the victims of the attack, as he drove a vehicle similar to one described and she knew he was in the area.

However, Supreet remained professional and kept her composure, despite the horrible uncertainty and as images of the vehicle came on screen.

Once the bulletin ended, the anchor walked out and immediately rang the reporter, who sadly confirmed that her husband Harshad Kawade had indeed died, leading her to break down in tears.

"She was doing her job, and she kept on doing it with composure and without showing her emotions on air," IBC24 editor in chief Ravi Kant Mittal said (via CNN).

Supreet and Harshad had been married for over a year. She has worked at the Hindi news channel – which serves Indian states Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh – since its inception nine years ago.

Since the tragic news broke, many have praised Supreet for her professionalism in the face of such heartbreak:
