View Full Version : Sean Spicer - Holocaust denier or ridiculous bonehead?

Donald Trump's press secretary, Sean Spicer, claimed that Adolf Hitler did not use chemical weapons on his own people. He compared Adolf Hitler favourably to Bashar al-Assad, telling journalists at his weekly press briefing, "We didn’t use chemical weapons in world war two. You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons.”

He has since apologised for the gaffe which he made one day after Mr Trump had wished Jews in the US and worldwide, a happy Passover.

It's not the first time he's put his foot in his mouth. In January, the White House issued a statement commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and failed to mention the Jews.

There have been claims that Spicer is a Holocaust denier. I'm not so sure he is. He's a press secretary that has never been a journalist and seems to lurch from one disaster to another. I think he is a man out of his depth who needs either to step down or be sacked. He also, to me, shows the calibre of people Trump has in his corner.

What do you think?

If he's saying that Hitler never used chemical warfare one could argue that he's a holocaust denier when you take the Gas chambers into consideration

But d'you know what made it worse?

In a TV news interview he said that he "does'nt want this to detract from president Trumps efforts to DESTABILISE Syria" x 100

I think he's ignorant and spoke without thinking it through. He was thinking only of modern use of weapons and not of gas chambers. The problem is when you are making public statements it needs to thought out a lot better than this. I think he should resign. I don't really know much about the caliber of Trump's team so it's hard to know if he's part of an infection or a one off sniffle.

Tv gold.

I dont know wht he felt the need to apologise as the papers and all the holocaust lobbyist or charities were the ones who skewed his words. Even after he had clarified what he meant.

His words weren't skewed. He said "Even Hitler didn't gas his own people". German Jews were gassed. And this is the Press Spokesman for the Whitehouse!. His "clarification of what he meant" was a mish-mash of babbling and backpeddling.

He's not anti-Semitic, he's not a Holocaust denier... he's bonehead.

I dont believe the whole story about assad using them on his own people anyway...Until I see actual evidence. the wya the yanks are trying to use this allegation to justify firing 59 missiles and who know what else to follow all seems massively dodgy to me and another iraq wmd fiasco all over again

However it does seems dodgy as you say.

It seems strange that when Assad is winning and knows he's being watched closely that he would feck himself up by using chemical weapons.
It's strange how Trump reacted so quickly without any investigation.
Also the lack of evidence. If there was evidence then you'd think it would be put out to sway public opinion in favour.
In the talks yesterday the Russians were also calling for a full investigation and the Americans(Tillerson) seemed to just brush over it sheepishly like it was never mentioned.

While I don't trust Trump, believing a word Assad says is just too difficult.
