Jayne Torvill confirms Dancing On Ice will return

JAYNE Torvill has confirmed Dancing On Ice will return to telly screens – and revealed the ITV show will have a new and “refreshed” look when it relaunches.

The Olympian confessed that Steven Gerrard is top of her wish list to take part as she urges the retired footballer to sign up.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun’s Bizarre column she said: “I love that it’s coming back, it’s great news – I’m really looking forward to it.

“The show will definitely be refreshed but the basics will be the same, we will still be teaching celebrities how to skate.

“It was a different sort of platform being in the studio – we like to be creative and come up with new things. There’s a new bar to set when the show returns.

“My son is a massive Steven Gerrard fan; he wants him to do Dancing On Ice as he’s retired now.

“He’s also keen on David Beckham taking part but I told him that’s unlikely.”

The popular programme saw Olympic champs Jayne and Christopher Dean teach celebs to skate competitively.

It was hosted by Phillip Schofield and Christine Lampard, but was axed after nine series.

honestly lol @ people thinking doi>scd. doi is probably one of the most lifeless, sterile shows i have seen on tv. the only interesting thing is watching to see if people will smash their heads on the ice and cut with the blades. having said that, i'm sure i'll watch it when it returns

I don't really find SCD that interesting because it's just boring and is one of the most overrated shows to exist.

I can't bear to watch them on This Morning, they both do far too much already.

I used to like Strictly and still watch a few times if somebody I like is in the cast (Rachel Stevens, Emma Bunton, Pixie Lott, Sunetra Sarker etc) but my god it's a dull. It all feels the same now. At least there is a sense of danger on DOI and imo skating is a much tougher skill thank dancing.

I haven't really enjoyed SCD since Alesha Dixion won. SCD/DOC do the same thing each time ofc but DOI is more impressive than SCD. I can skate but i wouldn't be able to put people on my shoulders and swing them about on ice. I enjoyed all the seasons except for all-stars because Jorgie and Zaraah going early was tragic because they were one of the best skaters and Hayley should have won.

Agreed, like it was pretty obvious they won't work together because Jorgie works and is close with Jennifer Metcalfe. it feels like she was set up and didn't get the votes because how dare she be loyal to her friend. She was a great skater and i was surprised from her first stint that she did so well, i think people expected her to be **** because she's blonde and think she's dumb.
