I went through a phase of going to them when I was younger, just for a laugh more than anything, I don't really believe in them but i did have one spooky experience with one alright a longtime ago

I always keep an open mind but I feel most have no real 'gift' as this issue at all.

However, I have heard people told things and things happen that have no real other rationally valid explanation.
A lot gets put down to just coincidence coming into play,however I have seen and had happen to me and mine things that go well beyond the simple boundaries of just coincidence.

So short answer to the question is yes,only to a likely minority as to those claiming to be same however.

I've seen Derren Brown trick people into believing he was one, and heard him explain how he did it - so I don't, but I do think that some are talented

It was a bad one really, she told me my friend, even gave her name and it wasn't a common name would try to kill herself and she did actually commit suicide 2 years later. I went back after that happened and she said to me, it's ok, she's with horses which was also a pretty specific thing to say as my friends whole life revolved around horses, she worked with them and we'd gone horse riding together when we were younger also and where she did what she did was near horses anyway it's a bad story and i don't believe in this stuff but i didn't know that woman and she certainly didn't know me but what she said wasn't vague and she never probed me at all so I can't explain that one

I do believe in mediums, my maternal grandmother had the gift(amongst other thngs:joker:) , however I reckon there are more fakes about than anywhere near the genuine article.
Many years ago my mother sent me a message through a medium, something personal to me, he then went on to tell me that I had not to worry, that I would not go blind and that it was mainly something to do with my left eye, well over 15 years later I ended up with just over 17 % vision between both eyes, starting in my left eye, thankfully my eyesight has been restored to near normal, but how on earth did he know about it, also I had a fear of going blind from being very young:shrug:
An old lady who has since passed was a very reliable medium, she told me things that nobody else even knew about, and she told a friend who was very sceptical things that blew her away.

I also watched Derren Brown's show where he rebuked their abilities. It's certainly tacky when mediums claim to contact the dead.

I know of many that say what you have and sceptics would put it down to luck or coincidence or some kind of deviousness.

For me much cannot be explained and so I go more with your account above.

Indeed it is Joey, my friend was told her dad was sorry, for him killing himself and her finding his body, also that he had shot himself.
Now that is not something you can just pull out of a bag.
Loads more other stuff as well.

It's not,really sad that and without that message,the trauma for your friend could have eaten away at her even more than it possibly was.
Still a massive tragedy but to be given a 'hope' must have comforted.
