View Full Version : What nationality do you consider yourself?

Me and my fiancé had an argument because he says he considers himself English yet I consider myself British. Maybe that's because I was born in Scotland but grew up in England and I don't really feel comfortable saying I'm English because I view our country as one nation (I'm a strong unionist) but he's like "Nicola Sturgeon doesn't consider herself British she considers herself Scottish" but surely that's just a nationalist view? I wish we could still keep in touch with our own Welsh, English, Scottish and Northern Irish heritage but unite as one nation because being split into 4 countries, with the exception of Northern Ireland really makes no sense.

If all the Brexit-oldies in the rest of the UK didn't exist and it was just the youth generation then I would consider myself British

British. Although if it ever came to civil war I'd be torn, as I have Scottish roots but was born and raised in England.

My Father and his ancestry was Scottish,my Mum and her ancestry are Irish.
I was born in England in Worcestershire and lived there until I went to Uni.
So I prefer to call myself British.

Indeed,it is in the same parliamentary constituency as where I was born,Worcestershire West.
I was supposed to be born at my Grandmothers in Southern Ireland but we were staying at my Aunts in Worcestershire, and I decided to arrive a little early.
Then my Parents bought a home there and stayed.
Close to the Welsh border,I made and have loads of Welsh connections too as friends.
Hence British more fitting than English as to my own nationality.

Scottish though I almost certainly have Irish ancestry on my paternal grandmother's side. I do know that my own mothers side were Ayrshire through and through for hundreds of years. Probably forever :joker:. Including my mum her entire life. Lived there until I was 18... Though I wouldn't live there now . Nor does my sister. We've destroyed the Ayrshire family line [emoji23].

Half my family are formerly highlanders and the other half are a Heinz variety of French and Spanish Caribbean.
I've done my Scottish genealogy and we were Picts through and through.
