Last time we were at critical was in 2007, so it's not that common for them to up it. There must be severe grounds for them to decide to change the status.
http://www.itv.com/news/2017-05-23/uk-threat-level-raised-to-critical-severe/
So basically they think that there's more to come after this attack.
We were critical just before 7/7

It means there will be more safety measures, more security.
You could actually be safer going to the concerts than you were before.
Having said that, my daughter and I had a very deep talk about her going to all the festivals, guns hidden in wrapped up tents, all those people wearing haversacks etc, she decided to give it all a miss last year, can't see her going again this year either.
But you can be in danger anywhere to be fair, I reckon we have to get on with life as normal as we can otherwise the scum have won.

I agree.
Also people try to just carry on as best they can to send a message to terrorists in determination to resist their terror activities.
Then we get the daft media, who give such terrorists part of all they hoped for, with endless coverage of the horrific incidents.
Date Threat level
1 August 2006 Severe

Well I travel through London a ridiculous number of time to get from a to b, and transport is targeted in these situations. Iunderstand that living there makes it more terrifying, but anyone is under threat of a terrorist attack at any time whether they're visiting on a trip, passing through, or living in the city.

Not sure I agree with putting the army on the streets. Deploy armed police sure, but I think seeing soldiers on your way to work etc could be really unsettling and have the opposite effect on the public that it's supposed to. Idk it's just a slippery slope.

Yep. I didn't really want to elaborate when I mentioned it earlier, but Lynton Crosby is going to exploit this for all the political capital it is worth. It shouldn't be that way, but it will be, and I think it's worth noting it. There are no depths he will not sink to, and I feel sick just thinking about it.
The campaign hadn't yet stepped into gear anyway, with Murdoch and Dacre sitting on frontpages of IRA crap waiting for the call. But you best believe within a week, the 'threat to national security line' will have returned, she'll be stood in front of step and repeat boards honing in on it, and the tabloid press will launch the biggest assault on a political leader in recent history. The landslide is back on.
Out of interest, does anyone know the legalities involved in postponing or indeed cancelling an election? Presumably the latter can't happen because parliament has been desolved but I'm sure someone knows the intricacies. This election really is futile now, I wish we could forget it. Nobody needs it.

Perhaps worth noting that a terror attack didn't mean the National Front is now in charge of France?

Perhaps worth noting that a terror attack didn't mean the National Front is now in charge of France?
True, but in fairness to them the Tories aren't on the same level as the National Front. This is a whole different ballgame.
It's a discussion that should probably only be had when the campaign resumes anyway. I just saw a post I agreed with and wanted to point out what I think is on the horizon.

No I absolutely agree, which is why I think it's so disgusting what's about to happen.
It's a difficult one to navigate. It's a depraved act that has quite rightly brought so many people together, putting aside their differences to help one another, that really moved me last night. But on the flip side, any event like this is always at its heart a political one. Be it the motivations, the cause, and the response. Unfortunately, that can't be shied away from.
But you're right, there is a time and a place.

I think it was always a bad idea to have this election that according to Mrs May was never going to be until 2020.
We had the Westminster incident recently yet amid all that she called this election.
Now we have the obscene scenario of an election being fought under a critical terror threat.
It was bad enough in the referendum campaign to have an MP who was a wife and Mother brutally murdered during that.
Now this mess.
No political points should be made by any Party on this and any that try to deserve a massive backlash.
Hopefully no more terrorist attacks will happen but the judgement as to timing and planning from this PM definitely leaves open a lot of questions as to that judgement of hers, for me it does anyway.
Really with a critical terror threat, this election should be cancelled on those grounds.
Rallies being held and Party workers are being forced to campaign, across all areas.
Only help endanger more lives.
Awful that people have to worry now about if they are safe anywhere,as even some are expressing genuine fears on this thread as to things they were intending to do.
This is a really worrying time now across the UK,armed soldiers and larger police presence, magnifies and rightly so,the more than likely dangers as to now more than probable loss of linnocent lives.
Somewhere, anywhere in any part of the UK.
