View Full Version : Housemates I would like/not like

Most recently, I have found the housemates a huge disappointment. No longer are they random members of the public. They tend to be wannabes who are in the public image already, albeit only slightly. The problem with the show now is that it has become a game OVER the interest I used to have in it, which was a psychological interplay between individuals. When you gather together a group of average individuals, the results can be fascinating.
But when you manipulate the show to the degree it has been, the interest just wanes.
I am sick of the extremist wannabes. Whatever one thought of Pete last year, he was a gimmick. It was so obvious someone like him would be put in the house. And all the girls are so common and dull. There is more to life than dim witted girls with breast implants. And you can guarantee there will be 3/6 men AT LEAST who are body builders. Boring. I am sick of the models and the pop stars and the 'professional dancers'. I have nothing against these careers, per se, but why does the house need to be disproportionately full of these types of people? Where is the interest in loud people who just flirt and try and shag one another?
What I want in this years housemates:
A college professor
Derek 2
Geek
A warden
Student of philosophy
A blind person
Elderly gentleman
Gorgeous Indian girl, with class, style and intellect
A person who suffers from homesickness
Identical twins
Toilet cleaner at an airport
A model
This would be a far more representative and intreaguing sample of society. Instead, I can just see launch night now....
'HIYA, MY NAME IS SABRINA. I'M LIKE........OH MY GOD, SO HORNY ALL THE TIME. I LOVE WELL HUNG BLACK MUSCLE MEN (Of course, one has just walked in). MY BREATS AREN@T REAL, BUT THE GUYS DON'T SEEM TO CARE (giggles). MY WORST TYPES OF PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE WHO FART AND LIKE TO READ (Someone else has already gone in, fitting that description.) I'm BLOND, BUBBLY AND BUSTY!!!' Goes into the house, the most false, common person ever.
'HEY, MAN. I'm BIMBO. I AM A BIT OF A WOMANISER. NO WOMEN WILL BE SAFE FROM BIMBO'S LAIR. YEAH, I LIKE THEM BLOND, BUBBLY AND BUSTY. I'M A WEIGHT LIFTER, AND JUST LOVE MY PECKS. (Pictures of him weight lifting). I WOULD DESCRIBE MYSELF AS WELL HUNG. I'M GETTING MY BIMBO WAND OUT, I GUARANTEE IT. YEAH, BABY.
I can just see it now.
Thoughts, anyone?

I still stick to my word, this years BB won't be full of loud, hard characters like the previous years (i mean bullies). It will be more gentle. After all the racism thing with the Shilpa bullying they won't want any more bullies in!!!

That's a really good line up you made there. I'd love it if the house were like that. The only problem is with that format, the show could or could not work. People have too high expectations of the show now I think!

Yes, I agree with Moses455. You don't really get the rich tapestry of personality types and characters that is Britain 2007 in Big Brother these days, and the two stereotypes mentioned are very boring and seen-it-all-before-many-times types.
But you need to give non wannabes a reason for wanting to appear on the show in the first place - it's not there at the moment. Also they rely a lot now on tabloid coverage, unfortunately. Look at how often the Daily Star puts BB on its front page.
I think what we really need is young, energetic, funny people. CBB5 kinda flopped as there was quite a lot of old people in it. I think we need a couple of foreign people in it too. The last four people in CBB werent even english, H was welsh, Dirk was American as was Jermaine and Shilpa was indian. I think we need a few foreign people in it to make int interesting but i don't think we need older people in it but i think the odd posh one doesnt hurt it too much.

I agree with Moses and his two scenarios are hilarious. BIMBO made me laugh out loud. Good work my friend.

Im expecting more calm neutral people like from the earlier series. BB has had enough controversy for one year with CBB.

And definately NOT another Shilpa! I think his thoughts were somewhat rhetorical. I don't think they were to be taken literally.

You cannot generalise and say a geek is Eugene. There are many different geeks, with different personalities. And I actually didn't find Shilpa attractive.
I put the model in, as there is bound to be one anyway, and I didn't want to be accused of not catering for everybody.

You bring up an excellent point. I am not a wannabe, there is no way I would want fame in any shape or form. But, I would love to get on big brother, merely for the psychological experience and the nervousness I would feel. I am sure that there are many who also would do it for this reason alone.
Love your pink floyd banners, btw!

I did like Shilpa, but she was already a celeb through being an actress, and there's more to her than say your average 'gorgeous Indian girl with class.'
Anyway, that aside, I have to admit a line-up like the one you've described Moses455 would make far more interesting watching. There are so many different types of people in the world, and if you're going to make a BB you might as well put in a load of extremely different types/characters and see how they interact. After all, I'm sure that's what quite a few people thought the show would entail before it came out. But then eventually it has turned into the example you mentioned (which by the way, was pretty funny), but the truth is that's how it's become, along with many bitchy, bully-type people. It can make interesting viewing, I'm not denying that, but sometimes you just need a more varied approach and I'm glad that's been brought up.

Yes! I accept you assumption, "officialleafan"
I think that a lot of this years Big Brother 8 housemates will be well aware of CBB Jan. and it is more than their live's worth, to take such a risk, twice in one year.
I would definately expect many cautious housemates having fun and laughing and also, when disagreeing with another housemate, may think twice before making a meal out of it and turning it into a full scale argument.
Maybe, there will be some "winking" going on.
I say that, because, if an argument is beginning, another housemate who is very aware of possible implications which could follow, beyond the argument and after the show too.
They will be thinking of attracting viewers and trying to be popular with other housemates too.
No point rocking the boat? Could backfire by overscrutiny?
When Shilpa Shetty was in CBB Jan. We saw what happened and the Actual reason for the furore was as clear as crystal.
The "clearness" of my above statement will sadly wreck ratings in my view.
I am sure Endemol will have a few tricks up their sleeve.
Try to do something which makes ratings for Big Brother 8
But this will be, "Plan B" this time.
"Plan A" made them millions. I am sure they will accept less this time round, but it is only percentages of profit.
