Hey,

You know I'm French and my english teacher asked me (because I'm first in my class lol) "what english people think about the next elections ?"

The first round is next sunday, there will be 2 finalists and the President will be choose during the last round the week after.

So, who do you think is the next President and what do you think about the candidates ?

Thanks to help me !!! :laugh2:

A fascinating election with an incredible 85% turn out. France is about to go through the changes that Margaret Thatcher made to this country 20 years ago, and its going to get very tough. The similarities are striking. First the new president is going to alter the 3 day working week so he will have to take on the unions just as Thatcher did. At the same time as getting people to work longer hours he has also got to create new jobs for the huge unemployed sector and these two plans are not compatible at the same time.
The biggest challenge of all will be dealing with the immigrant sector of the population who not only rioted last year for several weeks but also hate the new president who referred to them as `scum`. I believe this is the only way forward but he is going to face a riot at some point that will be far more substantial than Thatcher's mess with the Miners. I have just turned on the news and seen that small riots have already started !! but the main outbreak will happen after a few months when the young unemployed immigrants will have a go. One guy interviewed today said its going to be like war, and no one in Europe wants that for France. I wish the new man well , France is a beautiful country even though they haven't been too keen on us recently, Tho I suspect that was just Chirac. As for the huge turnout I have a strange feeling that this was more motivated by a hatred of the candidates , another reason for things getting a little tricky. Allez les Bleus and Vivre La France, is that about right Sunshine. So come on then who did you vote for????

Nicolas Sarkozy will be a great President, but he's the most controversal ever. Some riots have started since last night and today at schools. At all, he didn't say people will work only 3 days, they will work, at least 35 hours but if they want more, they can and much paied.
Chirac was a great President, but only between 1995 and 2002, he became unpopular since his re-election in 2002. He did nothing at all, that's why, 85% of french people have voted, they wanted big changes that Chirac didn't make. France is not ready to have a woman as President, it was just a big joke from the Socialists.
About Nicolas Sarkozy, he will take the power in 10 days, but during these 10 days, he goes in Corsica for some "holidays and mental training" for his new job. The prime minister will be announced on the 16th of may.

"Allez les bleus" is for the football team !!!
And the President must close his discussions by "Vive la République et Vive la France".
And I didn't vote, I'm 17, I was born the 19th of January...I will vote next year for the Mayor's elections. And in 5 years for the new President !

No he will leave in 10 days and gives the power to Nicolas Sarkozy the 16th of may.
He has a lot of houses in the world, so I think he will live in one of them but, his new job is really great. He will take part in a lot of conferences and meetings about environment. It's one of his priority, he will be more watched than ever before.
About Nicolas Sarkozy, earlier he's arrived in Malta, because he wanted a big "relaxing time" until the 16th of may in order to compose the new gouvernment and prepare himself to his new job.
