View Full Version : Anyone go to the cinema on their own?
Will.

Just perched and booked to see that the new Spider Man movie next Friday on my own.
I have my tennis lesson and my club is like right next to the cinema so it's handy!
I would always go the cinema with nan so will be going on my own for the first time!
Anyone else go on their own?

Yes! I literally love it, I find that I engage more with the film when I go on my own.

I don't go to the cinema ever but I might one week when there is a movie on that I'm potentially interested in seeing because my one of my housemates works at the cinema and gets to take 4 friends for free every week.
If I were into seeing movies though, I would definitely go on my own, don't see the issue with it

Never done it myself because I'm one of those people that find being on my own really embarrassing and so on but I wouldn't judge others who do it at all

I've done it once which i was quite nervous about but really it makes no difference at all because when you're watching it you don't even socialise with your friends.
Niamh.

Not really because someone in the house usually wants to come but I'd have no problem going on my own if no one wanted to come see a film that I wanted to see

I've been to the cinema once on my own because nobody wanted to see the film. It was fine and nobody even gave me a funny look, though I felt a bit awkward at first.
I would definitely go again on my own.

Never gone alone but I don't see an issue with it I just prefer to go with people as it's not as much fun for me otherwise. I'm not one that likes to go out anywhere in general unless it's with friends.

When I go with friends then yeah
One time I went with my friend and we thought this couple were having sex on the back row and we bursted out laughing and everyone started staring at us, it was a scream!
It was quite a small screen so we could talk, I think it was the fast and furious movie!

I don't like the cinemas anyway if that's anything (I'm such an easily distracted person) so just talk all the way through.
(Me and the girls have actually been kicked out a few times for distracting other people during the film)

well i have not seen the people i dislike (my bullies) for like 7 years but theres still a chance we could be in the same cinema and i don't want to give them the satisfaction them seeing my on my own thinking i have no friends and i don't know what they will be like and i'm a sensitive guy so i try and avoid those situations as i can. i'm not scared i just choose to avoid it.

Yes.
I used to think it was weird when I was younger but if I really want to see a film that none of my friends want to, then I'm not going to miss it just in fear of being alone. Plus you hardly talk in the cinema anyway so it doesn't really matter, like yeah it's nice to go with someone and have someone to talk about the film with afterwards but other than that, it's not really a big deal.
And you don't have to worry about being judged by other people as they really won't care if you're alone or not, their attention will be on the screen the entire time and the lights are off in theater so it's not like you'll be seen by everyone.

Once when I first learned to drive and I was off work and college and went to the shops to buy something and the cinema was dead do I just went in on my own, it was fine I like someone to talk to though so I wouldn't make a habit of it.
Oh actually I have before that too when my friends wanted to see a film and I didn't so I saw something on my own

You're more likely to annoy people into thinking that your phone is going to go off during the film.

I'm a big film fan and none of my friends are so I've been alone a couple of times, once to see Interstellar and a week or so ago to see Wonder Woman. It's totally fine, there's nothing worse than going to see a film and somebody trying to talk to you throughout it anyway.
Think it would be a bit awkward going to like the first night showing of a film by yourself though, only ever been by myself during the afternoon. At Interstellar there were quite a few guys there by themselves actually.

I did it once before to watch a film none of my other friends are interested in but I prefer to go with somebody, It's nice to have someone to talk about the film to afterwards.
I didn't mind going alone though, I probably would have been more self conscious about it when I was younger but now I don't care tbh. I think if you plan on going alone it's best to do so during the day on a weekday, it's what I did and I basically had the cinema to myself <3.

It's been almost a decade, they won't care!
How do you know they even still live in the same area as you or if they're all still friends after all these years?

If you're worried what people think then just pretend you're a media student who needs to review a film :p
Honestly, you've got more gall going on your own and it's satisfying, especially if it's a film you know not many people would want to watch with you.

Yeah I did it with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was fine. Everyone is there to see the movie anyway I don't think most people care if you are with someone or not.
If your tennis lessons are right next to the cinema then you may as well, it's convenient and if you really want to see it then you should go and enjoy it. I'll probably be going to see Spider-Man: Homecoming myself as well actually. I've been waiting on it for a year now and I think Tom Holland is the perfect Peter Parker, it's been getting great reviews so far. I think it should be good.
