Remember Glyn and Imogen speaking Welsh. It was fine for me because I understood it all. Did it annoy anyone who didn't?

I doesnt really bother me, as long as they dont speak it all the time.

Also, sunshine, you have to be a UK or ROI for at least 2 years before you can audition.

Matt

It doesn't bother me, provided they put subtitles up so I know what they're saying.

There was one time when Imogen was speaking to Glyn about her up-coming eviction and she said: " Wi am aros" - meaning I want to stay. But the subtitles were wrong and said : I will stay. They're not alway accurate.

off the point but i'm running out of things to say. lol

I don't think it is completely fair allowing housemates to use another language because part of Big Brother is about watching, and getting to know, them on the unedited live coverage, and they can't put subtitles up for that.

I'm spanish, but in Spain other regional languages are spoken (Catalan, Galician and Basque), nevertheless, in “Gran Hermano” (Big Brother) housemates only must speak in Spanish because all the Spanish people don't understand those languages.

Please can you keep the general chatter in the Big Brother 8 part of the forum to a minimum. There were 108 posts in this thread and 67 of them were general chat.

This isn't the area of the board for general chat.

There are areas of the forum like "Idle Banter - Talk About Anything Here" (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=29625) where you can chat to your hearts content. Please use these threads in future.

Thanks for your help in keeping subjects on topic.

The only language I'd understand that isnt English, would be Irish, considering I'm an Irish man myself, even at that, my words would be limited. As long as they dont speak it 24/7, I don't mind and as long as there is Subtitles of course :wavey:

Hell yea!
Hearing Glyn and Imogen speek welsh in the house was brilliant for me! I always went really hyper when they would speek welsh.
It was also really wierd becuase they were speeking a language on English TV that I speek in everyday life.
There was a huge controvocy here when we heared that BB tried to ban them from speeking welsh in the house, becuase they felt like they were speeking in code. It was quite disrespectful, becuase welsh is the oldest language in Europe and I think it's important that we save it and kieep it going.
Glyn and Imogen got people more aware of the language and I loved that!

(also they helped me with my welsh exam, becuase I was talking non stop about them in the house!)

Totally agree with you. i went so hyper when they spoke welsh that one time i was jumping listening to it. They definately did a good job in creating awareness of welsh.

Though Glyn's accent was a bit hard to understand sometimes.

If everybody can speak English, then they should do so at all times (edit - in the house). This way, none of the HM's have any need for suspiscion. Letting this happen could cause tensions.

The question was about should it be allowed to be spoken in the house.

We're in Britain. It's a British show. Welsh is a British language, infact the original British language, so Welsh, Irish or whoever for that matter, should be able to speak their British language in the house!

Besides, Glyn and Im only ever spoke Welsh to each other cos they felt comforable doing so!

WTF?
But by not letting people speak their own language is quite offencive. Wales is a part of the UK, and this is UK BB, they should be allowed to speek welsh, same with the languages that they speek in Ireland and Scotland. I'm so happy that Glyn and Imogen were allowed to speek welsh in the end, because now theyv'e done alot to promote the language and have made people more aware that us young people DO speek it in everyday life.

Aslong as it's subtitled then I don't mind, it's unfair not allowing people to speak their native tongue. Plus lots of popular shows have foreign speaking characters now, e.g Lost and Heroes and they don't suffer because of it.

I just stated that if everyone can speak English then why not? So don't WTF me. I don't have a problem with anyone speaking their own language, it is just that in BB, it is a different environment, and people could get paranoid about it. My view. And I got your u2u eyeonu. I can see his point about other housemates getting suspicious but that in no way means that they shouldn't be allowed to speak their own language, it's the other housemates fault if they are so paranoid.

Having read this thread let me say how disappointed it is to find it being reduced to an argument amongst members.

There were no need to make the thread personal at all and people were lucky I didn't had out warnings. Remember the golden rule folks:

NO PERSONAL INSULTS

I'm personally feed up with the letters WTF being posted all over the board by some members. There is no need to swear even in text speech which in any case also against site rules. This has to STOP!
