Think they've done a pretty good job with the live actions films so far tbf, started off really well by getting King Robb to be in Cinderella and deliver a masterful performance, and then the Jungle Book was good as well. No interest in Beauty and the Beast though so haven't seen that

At least it isn't going to be The Rock as the genie I suppose

I'm surprised they didn't offer all the money under the sun to Dev Patel for Aladdin, he's perfect for it

The rock would make a fantastic Genie :flutter:.

I can see Will Smith as the genie though. His ranty "I have GOT to get me wunna these!!" mode has that sort of energy about it.

As for Dev Patel, he must be pushing 30 which is a little old for Aladdin surely? Though to be fair, I can't find anything about the age of the guy who is playing him. But I'm sure aladdin is supposed to be late teens / early 20's?

Dev Patel could definitely still pass as a teenager

I just associate the rock with bad films. Not sure I've liked a single one

They wanted a newcomer to play Aladdin so Dev Patel and that other guy Twitter were really pushing for it were automatically out

Jade from Little Mix auditioned for Jasmine and got far in the process

Amy Jade

Jade should have got it.

Not interested in seeing it with this cast and Naomi Scott is a terrible actress. Not saying Jade is any better as she is unknown but she has the vocals and look down.

Apparently the Genie isn't animated or blue in this...

The movie had to reshoot because Disney bosses didn't feel their existing footage was authentic enough.

https://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00125386.html

Guy Ritchie and the cast of Disney's new live-action version of "Aladdin" were reportedly called back for reshoots to give the movie a more Middle-Eastern feel.

Filming on the project, which stars Mena Massoud as the title character, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, and Will Smith as the Genie, originally wrapped in January.

However, a movie insider told British newspaper The Sun that cast and crew had to return to London earlier this month to reshoot several scenes with additional Middle-Eastern looking extras - as Disney bosses didn't feel their existing footage was authentic enough.

A movie insider said: "Disney wasn't massively impressed with the first draft and had its cast return to London to reshoot parts of the movie. They are eager for it to do as well as last year's 'Beauty & The Beast', which made £1 billion ($1.3 billion) at the box office."

The Sun's source claimed that producers felt initial footage wasn't true enough to its Arabian folk story source material - and so cast new, Middle-Eastern extras in a number of scenes.

"They want it to be respectful and feel authentic, so they cast more Middle Eastern extras for crowd scenes," the insider said, also revealing that Will's role as the Genie has been expanded.

"Aladdin" has already been hit by controversy, after an extra in the film, Kaushal Odedra claimed pale-skinned extras had been made-up to look more Arabian. Disney chiefs denied Odedra's claims, stating that make-up had only been used for crew members, stunt performers, and animal handlers, to help them blend into crowd scenes.

After the reshoots, the insider said Disney producers are now "a lot more confident" the movie will be a hit on its release next May. Representatives for the company did not respond to a request for comment.

Guy Ritchie is enough to give me pause, he is a woeful director and there's no way he can pull off a musical when all he does is his terrible little 'geezer' films. The trailer does little to convince me otherwise.

The Beauty and the Beast remake felt authentic from the first trailer, the first poster even. This just feels like a trainwreck. What were Disney thinking of hiring Guy Ritchie of all people for this?

For ****s sake, Aladdin is meant to be hot. He was my first crush as a kid

I also hate how they keep butchering Disney classics. However am oddly excited for this one? As I love the original so much

As much as I can't stand Guy Ritchie, This will be a hit regardless of who directs it. It's Disney after all.

I think he's quite attractive tbh.

I don't think it's likely to find someone of the right ethnicity to play an Aladdin that looks like the one from the animated films as they based Aladdin's look on Tom Cruise so you'd essentially have to find an arabic person with very caucasian features and hope that they can also sing and act to a high standard too, a bit of a specific ask

But it won't be good and that's what really matters, sales aren't indicative of quality.

...when I went to see A Star is Born/Lady GaGa version/buy it in iTunes and hit the box office ratings for Smithy etc....there was a trailer for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms...which looks pretty stunning and grabbed me much more than this one is...

Jasmine looks pretty good but the other two look terrible.

The genie should have been a CGI character, he's meant to be larger than life but I just don't see Will Smith (or anyone) having the physicality to pull it off. Aladdin just looks horrible, the costume is all wrong. The actor looks the part physically (or as close as they'll probably get since the animated version was based on Tom Cruise and you aren't going to find many arabic people that look like Tom Cruise) but the costume is just bleh.

I think Aladdin looks low-key hot. Jasmine's gorgeous, but WILL SMITH?

I was expecting him to take a voice role, not a physical role :umm2:

Jafar sounds watery af and not at all imposing and that CGI genie? Guurl, Lion King and dumbo must have sucked up the CGI budget this year.

That being said, the locales look nice.

I agree with the criticisms that the clip is a perfect example of why the original Disney movies are so loved. There's something about the animation that just cannot be captured live action.

Pointless, soulless remakes.

Will probably be going to see this. I have not really been impressed with the remakes at all so far, however still feel the need to try them, and aladdins one of my fave disney films to start with, that and the little mermaid (which apparently they are redoind too :umm2: )

We went to the pictures like 2 weeks back to watch the pokemon movie as the ad we had seen said it was out then, but of course it wasn't out til the friday (we went on wed..which the ad had ****ing said) so ended up watching dumbo with the kid,s which they seemed to like and tbh, I quite enjoyed it. BUTm I never really liked the original dumbo so that may be why. When its one I like, I have to high hopes I think, was really really dissappointed with beauty and the beast..
