They weren't mocking Karthik so much as they were discussing his weasely verbal tactics. He's like a clumsier, less artful version of Paul. Paul's statement "I don't miss a trick" is very telling. They're both calculating, duplicitous people.

I expected a less juvenile attitude from Derek, who is almost 70.

I could have used better language to diss Karthik. Instead he just came out with it...

They were laughing at Karthik because he came to make peace by offering to make him a cup of tea then went on to have a pop at Paul in a very round about way....Karthik just can't help himself...
