The Rationale for Rachel Rice

so we all lived through my Hira Shrine and Jem Justifation, and I always knew my next series to rewatch would be BB9 and that my next thread just HAD to be a Rachel Rationale. I wasn't sure when this would take place, but after BB18 and all the mystery revolving around Rachel (Raph we're still waiting to hear your side of things hun...x) I knew that this was the time. I think the forum opinion of her has improved since I've joined, but there are still a lot of naysayers throwing around stupid cliches like BORING and FENCE-SITTER and NOTHING LIKE HER ONE MINUTE LONG VT HOW DARE SHE and basically whatever the **** else bellends like Rex and Luke said. However, personallyme I think Rachel might have the most complete and well-rounded winner's journey of them all? And I shall use this thread to highlight it. Be warned though, bc 93 day series terrify me so this project will probably take many many months. I'll be very proud of myself if I finish before 2018.

From memory rachel was pretty boring :laugh: But I think this was more a case of...the others were more entertaining and interesting, than it being her being boring. If that makes sense. A housemate like Rachel these days would be amazing tbh, with all the plastic fakes we have.

Day 5:
-okay so I think Rachel's role in #Chipgate has already been pretty well-documented because that's usually one of the main examples fans use to reject the notion of her sitting on the fence, and duh because she was great in it. She wasn't afraid to speak up, she presented her thoughts calmly and rationally, and she encouraged Bex not to just leave and go for a fag right away but wait it for the right moment. It's refreshing to see someone with actual social intelligence on BBUK because that doesn't happen very often, and her DR afterwards where she was crying at the absurdity of the situation and Alex being an aggressive bully was sweet. Part of me was wondering how this would be perceived in 2017, with Rachel declaring the black girl an aggressive bully, but like... it's Alexandra De-Gale. She is aggressive and she does exhibit so many bullyish qualities.

-jfc Rachel went over to Alexandra when they woke up and tried to sort out the stuff from chipgate and Alexandra IMMEDIATELY shut her down in the harshest way possible :joker: and then Sylvia tried to talk Alex into hearing her out and Alex was just like "Listen to her? Who does she think I am, Dear Diary?" :laugh2:
-and then Rachel won the endurance part of the Shopping Task and had an INSPIRING DR about how she didn't think she was going to do well until people started doubting her and that's when she knew she was going to do well #EnduranceQUEEN

-Rachel put forth a valiant effort in leading the team to success with the Shopping Task but unfortunately she and Dennis came up just short :( and then Dennis was SUPER rude and refused a hug, but he realized the errors in his ways soon after and said he was just stressed about losing the Shopping Task

I love this example of her. If I remember correctly all of the 'she sits on the fence' people like Rex, Luke etc just sat there and did nothing (well basically everyone except Rachel, Steph... and even Kat tried to tell Alex she was being out of order didn't she?)
Rachel just didn't get into silly pointless arguments for the sake of airtime, and rather than sitting on the fence she actually listened to all sides. As far as surface entertainment goes I can understand why people call her boring but as a person and how she dealt with situations she was one of the most interesting housemates BB has had imo, like if you're watching the show as a social experiment then Rachel was by far the most interesting that year, it just depends what you watch it for I guess.

I mean, all the bull**** that the other HMs spewed about Rachel being BORING and SITTING ON THE FENCE was really just a euphemism for the fact that she didn't suffer from at least one psychological or personality disorder, but we'll discuss that at a much later date :3

-the only thing Rachel really did was in the beginning of the episode when she actually listened to Mario's bull**** about ~PROJECT MANAGEMENT~ and seemed to try to genuinely take it on board while also pointing out that even though they could've done a better job at reading the rules for the shock task, she and Dennis had to be the ones working the wires so it wasn't their choice. But yeah, keep sitting on the fence hurn...x

-jfc this was that episode where Dennis was all like I'M READY TO TURN THIS HOUSE ON ITS HEAD AND AIR OUT EVERYONE'S DIRTY LAUNDRY, THERE'S TOO MUCH NICENESS AND I THINK IT'S FALSE :devil: and Rachel was walking by and was like "hmm that's odd, he thinks there's too much niceness" like any normal human being would. And then she wanted to talk to Dennis one-on-one and he just denied it and then put on a big show at the house meeting about how RACHEL MISINTERPRETED HIM AND THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS BC SHE SPREAD LIES (!!!!) and Rachel was just like "um I already apologized to you three times and I'm apologizing for a fourth now :conf:"
-and then after Dennis made a big deal about how IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY YOU SHOULD SAY IT TO PEOPLE'S FACES BC THERE'S A LOT OF BITCHING GOING ON Rachel was just like "yeah I would rather you just come to my face bc I like to think I'm pretty approachable and we'll probably be able to sort things out :shrug:" and then she did exactly that with Alex sooooo yeah so much for sitting on the fence!

-very UTR episode for Rachel bc her nominations weren't even shown BUT she seemed to have fun at Mo's cross-dressing birthday party and was the first to point out that his penis was showing as soon as he ripped Kat's leggings!

-another UTR episode for Rachel bc it was all about the aftermath of Alexandra screaming about how Mohamed is a MOOSELIM but she had one small moment where she said she was sure they were going to pass the Japanese Shopping Task bc Kathreya and the other seem really confident about learning Japanese. What a gem to have faith in her team :love:

-lmao so QUEEN OF SITTING ON THE FENCE Rachel Rice got in a fight with Alex the morning of her ejection, which I tooooootally forgot about somehow??? Rachel and Rex decided to cook all the spaghetti that morning and said that people could reheat it for leftovers later and Alex flipped out and was both passive-aggressive (sulking while making breakfast bc her plans that she made on Monday were INTERFERED WITH) and actually aggressive (calling Rachel a stupid girl) and Rachel didn't back down at all? She explained why they did what they did and kept going at whatever **** Alex threw at her, she just happened to act like a normal person and rationally presented her points rather than getting in a screaming match :shrug: I actually sided more with Alex on this one lol but of course she presented herself in THE worst way possible and was a complete nightmare
-yup and then we immediately get a scene of Mario, Lisa, and Luke talking about how Rachel is NOT GENUINE and TOO NICE and NEEDING OF A REALITY CHECK and DELUDED so yeah I guess we're officially leaving the messy beginning of a season when the editors can't figure out what the actually storylines are and are now entering The Passion of Rachel Rice

-and then Rachel diffused the Mikey/Sylvia fight over Sylvia being loud as **** while he sleeps (the same time where she and the others eat cookies in front of him without him knowing which like... idk, the scene wasn't nearly as vile as I remembered tbh) by bringing Mikey into the living area so he could take a nap in there and not be disturbed :love: queen of keeping the peace
-and then she tells Rex that he's overanalyzing Stuart and if he is someone's ex and tells Kathreya not to worry about Sylvia cheating on her boyfriend. QUEEN of seeing the good in people and giving everyone a chance

-omg and then she was the FIRST person who Mario declared should be part of the band for the treadmill music video shopping task, what an honor
-lmao and then she got hurt just by sliding across the treadmill :( :( :( I actually laughed real hard bc she was screaming her lungs out for... a scraped and bloody finger? wishing her a speedy recovery though!! (yes I know this happened nearly a decade ago but I'm living in the moment)

-very UTR episode for Rachel bc it was spitgate but she was super sweet in trying to act like Rex didn't do it on purpose, telling Rachel that she can't even notice anything and she's sure she can get the painting fixed after the show, and that things were getting out of control bc people got riled up and started to use the fight to lash out on people they already were having growing issues with. She played the role of the neutral diplomat well!

-another episode that Rachel was not part of bc it was the aftermath of Spitgate BUT we could see her trying to tell Jennifer to relax when she immediately went "YEAH WELL LET’S HOPE JUSTICE IS SERVED, YEAH? LET’S HOPE MOHAMED GOES! *furiously points in his direction*"

-Rachel finally got a DR! She was *NOT* surprised about the Dale/Rex thing and she thinks the comments Sylvia is making about her are rather childish and petty and immature and she's more annoyed that it's bringing the atmosphere down than that they said anything about her. -oh lovely, perfect when an episode starts off with Luke and Jennifer talking about how Rachel and Kathreya are FAKE and surely Rachel has A DARK SIDE
-and theeeeen that turns into an awful awful AWFUL Luke DR (as if there are any other kind of Luke DRs, who am I kidding) about how Rachel is A POLITICIAN because... she wanted the house to have a slumber party tonight? and therefore she SITS ON THE FENCE?
-and theeeeeeeen Luke lays into Kat bc he just KNOWS that she'll tell Rachel that he stole the lemonade like a hypocrite and then Rachel will tell people and then everyone will know, all while Kat is just like "we don't talk about people O_O" and he was just like YA SURE KAT KEEP TELLIN ME THAT :rolleyes:
-yup, it's still going! Jennifer and Bex are bitching now because... Rachel made a face like three nights ago when Bex said something? and Luke's mad bc she asked Rex how he baked Kat's token cookie and what ingredients he used? like these people are ****ing reaching like no other and grasping for any goddamn straw in a ten mile radius
-it's okay though, Rachel's final moment of the episode was her SITTING ON THE FENCE, and by that I mean calmly but firmly owning Bex and Jennifer. She told them that they're allowed to be upset about things but not wanting a happy house is obviously going to **** with everyone, and it's fine if they don't like Rex but they should just not talk to him and not talk about him in the Bathroom while he is within earshot, just talk about him in the DR where they have privacy. Jennifer played ****ing dumb despite having a full audience in the bathroom and Rachel was just like "ummm instead of going to the bathroom to. talk about him just go to the DR :shrug:"
-and then Rachel *did* get some P-SPV at the end of the episode with Mario talking about how she's very articulate and she can hold her own and he really underestimated her
-oh ya and Rachel also did a good job talking to Kat after all the Jenn/Bex **** and coming up with a plan to tone down the happy happy hou around them but to not let their negativity ruin their time

god what a great breakout episode after nearly two weeks of being a tertiary character at best :love: and the queen stays queen, adios!

-Rachel is so thankful that they got GRAPES on their shopping budget bc they're like cigarettes to her and they're her best friend :joker:
-wtf and then we cut to Rachel telling Mohamed that she loves him AS A BROTHER and her boyfriend wouldn't be happy if she didn't clarify that... :joker: Mohamed is just all O_O the whole time but he clearly did something for her to feel the need to clarify lmfao
-alol and then Rachel's so cute when Darnell gets to take someone out on a date and Mikey's asking why it wasn't him and Darnell says it bc he doesn't put out. Rachel tells him that a girl who doesn't put out is even worth it MORE bc of it :love: queen of feminism
-omg and then Rachel goes to the DR *again* and thanks them for the grapes and warns BB to not play Hanson bc Bex said she would get her tits out and play with her nipples and **** with strawberries :joker: Rachel's so mortified for her bc she thinks Bex would regret it and a lot of children would be disturbed as well :joker: queen of shade
-alol and then Rachel is in the DR while Kat, Rex, Mo, and Darnell sing the B-Block Anthem (Na Na Na You Can't Mess With Us) and she looks mortified all O_O :joker: :love:
-and then during the topiary task Rachel and Bex found a nest with an egg in it and brought it to the DR, what a humanitarian!
-oh good, more Luke talking about Rachel's DARK SIDE because she... thought her cup of water was disgusting and threw it out? and Luke took it as shade towards him bc he's insecure af?
-hmm and it's the end of the episode and Rachel is SITTING ON THE FENCE again... jk she's getting a DR about how she can't live in a house where people are bitching about others and she doesn't want to be a bystander who lets it happen, and she doesn't want to get involved with things that don't have to do with her but she doesn't want the house to turn into a negative house and it's pathetic how they think Kat's being fake and they're attacking her just bc she sings and enjoys herself rather than bitching about people like they'd rather have her do

-Rachel had a very solid DR to open up the episode about how she's willing to be civil with Jennifer and Bex bc why not, but it's hypocritical of Jenn to want her to open up more bc she's the girl who wouldn't play truth or dare in the first week bc it was against her morals or whatever. Rachel also talked about how she doesn't want to open up about everything in her life bc everyone's had bad things happen to them so she doesn't want to play the sympathy card just to get people to like her :clap1:

-UTR episode for Rachel, all that happened was she received THREE nominations for all the **** that Luke poisoned Jennifer and Bex's ears with about her DARK SIDE and being FAKE and THE WALTONS (take a ****ing shot every time Jennifer uses this comparison, good lord)

-k and then we just have Jennifer complaining about how Rachel and Kat are hugging and comforting each other when they’re not even nominated and Mario telling Luke how she’s a DRAMA TEACHER who switches her smile on and off #yawn

Also just want to report that there's some fugly Craig Coates lookalike on Big Mouth saying that Rachel is the most boring HM *EVER* and then some blonde wench saying she's clinging to Kat's personality bc she hasn't got one :rolleyes: it's a good 50-50 split though between Rachel slaggers and Rachel defenders though!

Lisa's actually pretty UTR in the opening few weeks sadly! She is starting to come into form though with her random stories about her modeling career and TV appearances where she's jumping out of speedboats onto helicopter ladders and her days as a nightclub bouncer and how she was CONVINCED that she caught myxomatosis from her rabbit when it was really just a cold.

Day 28:
-yup, more bitching about how Rachel is the DULLEST person Rebecca's ever met in her life :rolleyes:
-and then the last third of the episode is Kat running off and sobbing hysterically bc of a Rex and Bex fight and Rachel was such a good friend being by Kat's side to comfort her and make sure she was okay :love: everyone needs a friend like Rachel Rice in their life

-k so Rex is describing in graphic detail how bad Rachel's bowel movements are bc she always does them in B-Block, how charming :rolleyes:

-the only other Rachel Thing was how Luke wouldn't shut the **** UP about how she and Kathreya jumped ship to B-Block and now B-BLOCK IS FIRING SHOTS AT THE LUXURY BEDROOM AND THEY ARE ALMOST OUT OF AMMO wow if only I cared x

-Rachel had a nice chat with Lisa about how even though the Irish dance task is impossible it's not okay that people are giving up so easily, and she'll accept failure but she won't accept not trying. QUEEN of positivity!!!
-and then she has a kind of obnoxious DR about the CONSPIWACY THEOWY (/Luke) that the intruders are a twist, but she also admitted that if she's wrong then she can laugh about it because she's in the Big Brother House and you're supposed to be wrong about a lot of things, which is more humility than I'm pretty sure Luke has ever shown in his life!

-oh good, immediately we get an opening scene about how it's a FACT that Rachel drinks alcohol like a fish outside of the house and she is LYING about being a nondrinker (I'm sooooo ready for Mario to go and ugh how do we have three more weeks of Luke jfc)
-hope Mario feels like **** bc Rachel got a DR about how she'll be sad if he follows through with what he's saying about speaking some home truths if he's evicted bc she'll be disappointed since she actually likes him a lot
-and then Rachel's crying about this to Kat and how everyone doubts who you are in this house even though you know who you are and your family and friends know who you are, and I think this is the first instance of Kat talking about people BREAKING HER HEAHT :( :( :(
-oh good, more Luke and Webecca talk about how Rachel will SCREW EVERYONE OVER FOR THE HUNDRED THOUSAND POUND CHEQUE
-aaaaaand to top it all off we get the first documented instance of "Let's ask Rachel ****ing asinine questions and yell at her for sitting on the fence when she doesn't want to answer bc she thinks the questions are stupid and she actually has some social intelligence." Today's question was which intruder she likes the most and she's just like ":shrug: there are things I like about all of them and the things I don't like about them, I'm thinking and hoping they're only being exacerbated bc they're on a secret mission" which is a perfectly ****ing reasonable answer if you ask me.

-so Mikey was giving Kat **** for counting to nearly 10 minutes in the Shopping Task where they each had to count 5 minutes, and he was totally in the right, but Rachel was such a good friend jumping in and pointing out that it was a group task so there's no need to point fingers since they failed as a group :love:
-Rachel took it particularly hard that Dale didn't give the hamper of snacks and alcohol to Hell and is worried that Dale hates her now :( *BUT* she says it's his loss if he does, queen of looking at the glass half full

-and then when the guys share everything they saw Rex gets suuuuuper assholey and Rachel keeps trying to explain herself and Rex just keeps shutting her down eventually with I'D SWAP YOU FOR SCRABBLE which... is not funny?

Day 88:
-Mikey thinks Rachel was the best Head of House :love: lol this episode had so many random Mikey/Rachel interactions that were sweet even though he definitely wants to bone her
-ew and then they're putting fake tan on Darnell's bum and Rachel's shielding her eyes with a pillow. Of course Rex called her ****ing pathetic :rolleyes: queen of chastity!

Day 89:
-Rachel having a big discussion with BB in the DR about which Disney character she would be <3333 she chose Belle for her human choice and Simba for her animal choice!
-Rex randomly decides to call Rachel out for turning on him bc she nominated him (even though he had already nominated her once before!) and she was just like “well I didn’t like the person you were while Nicole was here :shrug: I’m entitled to that” and he just doubled down on everything as usual and randomly called her out for trying to please everyone?!?! He was just like ‘all you do is agree with everybody” (which doesn’t even make sense in the context of this argument) and Rachel just replied “that’s why I nominated you…and that’s why we’re having this conversation…x” <33333333 Rex’s weave is all over the living area floor

Day 90:
-the Rachel impersonations <33333 my favorite is Mikey running around the house yelling CHICKPEA in his high-pitched voice while throwing chickpeas on the floor and angering everyone :joker: Rachel of course is so lovely, telling everyone that she would clean up the chickpeas so they should all help out! and then Rex started bitching about Mikey Wikey and Rachel was just all “I don’t think Rachel would say that ;)”
-omg and then a heartfelt Rachel DR about how she was supposed to be the one evicted tonight bc Kathreya was the true winner :( :love: and then she was sobbing while packing up Kat’s suitcase :( friendship goals

Day 91:
-Rachel crying when she woke up :( she had a sweet DR about how it’s tough without Kat and Mo but she still has four other great people and she’s going to miss EVERYTHING in the house from the Diary Room and the Tasks to the cameras and the cutlery!
-Rachel saying that she misses even the people who didn’t like her just sums up the entire Rachel experience. Queen of generosity :love:

Day 92/93/FINALE:
-Rachel calling out a sulking and moping Rex in the final HLs and asking him why he needs alcohol to have fun :love: QUEEN of staying above the influence!
-omg and then her winning moment is everything I remembered it to be. Coming out with Mikey’s cup, being disturbed by Lisa’s theory that she had a crush on Mario, giving Nicole a jaw-dropped expression when she heard that she thought she was using Kat to win the money, laughing off Luke’s jealousy as the crowd literally chants “Jealous! Jealous!”, omg it was a ****ing experience :love: literally THE perfect way to cap off this thread and the entire season, it was divine

-Most tragic revelation was that Davina *LOST* Mikey's cup :( </3
-but I did get a lot of life from Rachel saying that she doesn't have any intention of getting off of the fence :love:
